Abstract

The object of the present invention is a process for obtaining a bone substitute of given chemical and physical characteristics and entirely similar to those of the mineral portion of natural bone tissue.

14. A process for substituting Ca²⁺ ions with Mg²⁺ ions in a porous matrix mainly of hydroxyapatite or carbonate-hydroxyapatite, comprising at least one phase of contacting said matrix with a saline aqueous solution containing an effective quantity of Mg²⁺ ions at a pressure greater or equal to 1 bar.

15. The process according to claim 14, wherein said porous matrix has a total porosity of from 50% to 90% by volume, with respect to the total volume of the matrix.

16. The process according to claim 15, wherein said porous matrix has a total porosity of from 75% to 85% by volume, with respect to the total volume of the matrix.

17. The process according to claim 14, wherein said porous matrix is a solid tridimensional scaffold.

18. The process according to claim 14, wherein said saline aqueous solution comprises said Mg²⁺ ions at a concentration of from 0.1 M to 4 M.

19. The process according to claim 18, wherein said saline aqueous solution comprises said Mg²⁺ ions at a concentration from 0.2 M to 3 M.

20. The process according to claim 19, wherein said saline aqueous solution comprises said Mg²⁺ ions at a concentration of from 0.5 M to 2.5 M.

21. The process according to claim 14, wherein said Mg²⁺ ions are present as MgCl₂.

22. The process according to claim 14, wherein said porous matrix and said saline aqueous solution are present in a mutual weight ratio in the range from 1/3000 to 1/50.

23. The process according to claim 14, wherein the pressure is from 1 bar to 5 bar.;

24. The process according to claim 23, wherein the pressure is from 1.5 bar to 3.5 bar.

25. The process according to claim 14, wherein the temperature is from 100°

C. to 150°

C.

26. The process according to claim 25, wherein the temperature is from 120°

C. to 140°

C.

27. The process according to claim 26, wherein the temperature is from 130°

C. to 138°

C.

28. The process according to claim 14, wherein said at least one phase is carried out in an autoclave over a time of from 10 minutes to 80 minutes.

29. The process according to claim 28, wherein said at least one phase is carried out in an autoclave over a time of from 15 minutes to 60 minutes.

30. The process according to claim 14, wherein the final product is a porous matrix mainly of magnesium hydroxyapatite or magnesium carbonate-hydroxyapatite, with a quantity of Mg²⁺ ions of from 0.2% to 1.5% by weight with respect to the weight of the matrix.

31. The process according to claim 30, wherein the quantity of Mg²⁺ ions is from 0.3% to 1.0% by weight with respect to the weight of the matrix.

32. The process according to claim 31, wherein the quantity of Mg²⁺ ions is from 0.4% to 0.7% by weight with respect to the weight of the matrix.

33. The process according to claim 30, wherein said final porous matrix is a solid tridimensional scaffold.
