1. An insertion tool for implanting an ophthalmic shunt having a foot, a head, and a body connecting the foot and head, the insertion tool comprising:
- a first arm having a proximal end and a distal end;
a second arm having a proximal end and a distal end, the second arm being movable with respect to the first arm between an open position and a closed position; and
means for gripping a shunt disposed on the distal ends of the first and second arms.

Abstract
An insertion tool and method are provided for implanting an ophthalmic shunt having a foot, a head and a body connecting the foot and head. The insertion tool has a first arm having a proximal end and a distal end and a second arm having a proximal end and a distal end. The second arm is movable with respect to the first arm between an open position and a closed position. A means to grip a shunt is disposed on the distal ends of the first and second arms. In use, the insertion tool is employed to selectively grip the shunt for placement in the tissue of the eye and, as desired, to orient the shunt after placement.
