Abstract

A method of displaying a menu in a mobile communication terminal and a mobile communication terminal are provided. The method of displaying a menu in a mobile communication terminal comprises displaying a standby screen in a display of the mobile communication terminal, selecting one of a plurality of specific directions through an input device of the mobile communication terminal, and displaying each menu corresponding to the selected specific direction on the standby screen.

Claims

1. A method of displaying a menu in a mobile communication terminal, comprising:

displaying a standby screen in a display of the mobile communication terminal;

selecting one of a plurality of specific directions through an input device of the mobile communication terminal; and

displaying each menu corresponding to the specific direction on the standby screen.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the each menu corresponding to the specific direction is displayed in a position corresponding to a direction selected by the input device on the standby screen.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the each menu corresponding to the specific direction is displayed on the standby screen in a transparent window form.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the each menu corresponding to the specific direction comprises one of a menu related to an icon displayed in an indicator area on the standby screen, a user setting menu, a communication service provider additional service menu, or a basic setting menu of the mobile communication terminal.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the icon is displayed with a changed color, magnified, or highlighted, and a cursor is positioned at the icon, and if a cursor is moved to an icon different from the icon by moving the cursor, a menu related to the different icon is displayed.

6. A mobile communication terminal comprising:

a wireless transceiver for performing a communication function of the mobile communication terminal;

a display for displaying a preset standby screen;

an input device for selecting one of a plurality of specific directions; and

a controller for controlling, when the standby screen is displayed in the display, if one of a plurality of specific directions is selected by the input device, to display each menu corresponding to the selected specific direction on the standby screen.

7. The mobile communication terminal of claim 6, wherein the controller controls to display each menu corresponding to the specific direction at a position corresponding to the direction selected by the input device.

8. The mobile communication terminal of claim 6, wherein the controller controls to display a menu corresponding to the specific direction on the standby screen in a transparent window form.

9. The mobile communication terminal of claim 6, wherein the each menu corresponding to the specific direction comprises one of a menu related to an icon displayed in an indicator area on the standby screen, a user setting menu, a communication service provider additional service menu, or a basic setting menu of the mobile communication terminal.

10. The mobile communication terminal of claim 9, wherein the controller controls so that a color or a size of the icon is displayed with changed or the icon is displayed with highlighted.

11. The mobile communication terminal of claim 6, wherein the specific direction is selected by selecting one of a plurality of direction keys provided in the input device.

12. A method of displaying a menu in a mobile communication terminal, comprising:

selecting one of a plurality of directions;

displaying a plurality of menus in a predetermined area on a standby screen corresponding to the selected direction; and

reducing when one of the plurality of menus is selected, an area in which the plurality of menus is displayed, and displaying a sub-menu of the selected menu.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein a space for displaying the sub-menu is secured by reducing the area in which the plurality of menus is displayed.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein each of the plurality of menus comprises an icon and a menu name corresponding thereto, and

when an area in which the plurality of menus is displayed is reduced, the menu name disappears and an icon of the selected menu is highlighted.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein each of the plurality of menus is arranged in a vertical direction on the standby screen, and

an icon and a menu name comprised in each menu are displayed in a horizontal direction on the standby screen.

16. A mobile communication terminal comprising:

a wireless transceiver for performing a communication function of the mobile communication terminal;

an input device for selecting one of a plurality of directions;

a display for displaying, when one direction is selected by the input device, a plurality of menus in a predetermined area on a standby screen corresponding to the selected direction; and

a controller for controlling, when one of a plurality of menus is selected by the input device, to reduce an area in which the plurality of menus is displayed, and to display a sub-menu of the selected menu.

17. A method of displaying a menu in a mobile communication terminal, comprising:

detecting a touch and drag operation of a specific direction in a touch input device; and

displaying a menu list in the specific direction by detecting the touch and drag operation.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the displaying of a menu list comprises sequentially displaying a plurality of specific menu lists according to a distance of the touch and drag operation.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the displaying of a menu list comprises sequentially displaying a plurality of identifiers for displaying each menu comprised in the menu list according to a distance of the touch and drag operation, and

the plurality of identifiers comprises an icon and a text.

20. The method of claim 17, further comprising displaying a specific graphic for notifying a start position of the touch and drag operation.

21. The method of claim 17, wherein the touch input device is a touch screen or a touch pad.
