Abstract

A map user interlace is described, including a first view including a first map, a selection window in proximity to a selected location, a plurality of alternatives displayed in the selection window, a second view including a second map that may be at least partially the same as the first map but modified from the first map depending on the location of the selected location of the first map, and depending on which one of the plurality of location-specific commands may be selected.

Claims

1. A user interface, comprising:

a first view including a first map;

a selection window in proximity to a selected location;

a plurality of alternatives displayed in the selection window, a second view including a second map that is at least partially the same as the first map but modified from the first map depending on the location of the selected location of the first map, and depending on which one of the plurality of location-specific commands is selected.

2. The user interface of claim 1, wherein one modification of the second map relative to the first map causes zooming in of the second map and another modification of the second map relative to the first map causes zooming out of the second map relative to the first map.

3. The user interface of claim 1, further comprising a location marker placed at the selected location of the first map on the map upon receiving a placement request indicating selection of a selected location of the first map for placement of a location marker.

4. The user interface of claim 1, further comprising:

an aerial selector, selection of the aerial selector adding an aerial photograph with the map over the aerial photograph.

5. The user interface of claim 1, wherein the map is a street map.

6. A method of interfacing with a client computer system, comprising:

transmitting a first view from a server computer system to the client computer system, the first view including a first map;

receiving a location-specific command and a selected location of the first map from the client computer system at the server computer system; and

in response to the location-specific command, transmitting a second view from a server computer system to the client computer system, the second view including a second map that is at least partially the same as the first map but modified from the first map depending on the location of the selected location of the first map.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the modification of the second map relative to the first map causes centering of the second map at the selected location of the first map.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the modification of the second map relative to the first map causes resizing of the second map.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the location-specific command is selected from a plurality of location-specific commands, the second map being modified from the first map depending on which one of the plurality of location-specific commands is selected.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein one modification of the second map relative to the first map causes zooming in of the second map, and another modification of the second map relative to the first map causes zooming out of the second map.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein a selection window is selected in proximity to the selected location with a plurality of alternatives displayed in the selection window, selection of a respective one of the plurality of alternatives causing transmission of a respective one of the location-specific commands.

12. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

receiving a placement request indicating selection at the client computer system of a selected location of the first map for placement of a location marker; and

placing a location marker at the selected location of the first map on the map.

13. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

receiving an aerial view command from the client computer system at the server computer system; and

in response to the aerial view command, displaying an aerial photograph below the map.

14. The method of claim 6, wherein the map is a street map.

15. A computer-readable medium, having stored thereon a set of instructions which, when executed by a processor of a computer, performs the method comprising:

transmitting a first view from a server computer system to the client computer system, the first view including a first map;

receiving a location-specific command and a selected location of the first map from the client computer system at the server computer system; and

in response to the location-specific command, transmitting a second view from a server computer system to the client computer system, the second view including a second map that is at least partially the same as the first map but modified from the first map, depending on the location of the selected location of the first map.

16. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the modification of the second map relative to the first map causes centering of the second map at the selected location of the first map.

17. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the modification of the second map relative to the first map causes resizing of the second map, with the selected location being at substantially the same location on the second map as on the first map.

18. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the location-specific command is selected from a plurality of location-specific commands, the second map being modified from the first map depending on which one of the plurality of location-specific commands is selected.

19. The computer-readable medium of claim 18, wherein the one modification of the second map relative to the first map causes zooming in of the second map and another modification of the second map relative to the first map causes zooming out of the second map.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 18, wherein a selection window is selected in proximity to the selected location with a plurality of alternatives displayed in the selection window, selection of a respective one of the plurality of alternatives causing transmission of a respective one of the location-specific commands.

21. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, the method further comprising:

transmitting a view from a server computer system to the client computer system, the view including a map;

receiving a placement request indicating selection at the client computer system of a selected location of the first map for placement of a location marker; and

placing a location marker at the selected location of the first map on the map.

22. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, further comprising:

receiving an aerial view command from the client computer system at the server computer system; and

in response to the aerial view command, displaying an aerial photograph below the map.

23. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the map is a street map.
