Abstract

A system implementing a method for providing sponsored information on an electronic device determines information of interest to the user as relevant information, accesses sponsored information, and provides sponsored information based on said relevant information.

Claims

1. A method for providing sponsored information on an electronic device, comprising the steps of:

determining information of interest to the user of the electronic device as relevant information;

accessing sponsored information; and

providing sponsored information based on said relevant information.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein:

determining information of interest to the user as relevant information further includes providing a user with one or more keywords related to content accessed by the user via the electronic device;

accessing sponsored information further includes accessing sponsored information related to a selected keyword; and

providing sponsored information based on said relevant information further includes providing the sponsored information for a selected keyword to the user.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the sponsored information includes sponsored web-links.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein the sponsored web-links include specific web-links corresponding to specific keywords.

5. The method of claim 3 wherein the sponsored web-links include dynamic web-links.

6. The method of claim 1 further including the step of maintaining sponsored information in an operator server.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein accessing the storage includes accessing the operator server for the sponsored information.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein accessing the storage further includes accessing the operator server from the electronic device via a communication link.

9. The method of claim 6 wherein maintaining the sponsored information per agreements between the operator and one or more sponsors.

10. The method of claim 6 wherein accessing the storage further includes periodically accessing the operator server and downloading sponsored information.

11. The method of claim 2 wherein accessing sponsored information includes:

upon selection of one or more of the keywords by the user via the electronic device, accessing a storage for sponsored information related to a selected keyword.

12. The method of claim 2 wherein providing the sponsored information for a selected keyword to the user includes displaying said information on the electronic device.

13. The method of claim 2 wherein:

the sponsored information includes sponsored dynamic web-links; and

providing the sponsored information to the user includes generating a static web-link from the dynamic web-link based on a selected keyword, and providing the static web-link to the user.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein generating the static web-link includes generating the static web-link by combining the dynamic web-link with a selected keyword.

15. The method of claim 2 wherein accessing sponsored information related to a selected keyword includes searching the sponsored information for sponsored web-links related to a selected keyword.

16. The method of claim 1 wherein the electronic device comprises a consumer electronics (CE) device.

17. An apparatus for providing sponsored information on an electronic device, comprising:

a related-information generating component configured for determining information of interest to the user as relevant information; and

a sponsored services component configured for accessing sponsored information and providing sponsored information based on said relevant information.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein

the related-information generating component is further configured for providing a user with one or more keywords related to content accessed by the user via the electronic device;

the sponsored services component is further configured for accessing information maintained in storage to find sponsored information that is related to a selected keyword, to provide to the user.

19. The apparatus of claim 18 further comprising a client module configured for displaying the sponsored information for a selected keyword to the user.

20. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the sponsored information includes sponsored web-links.

21. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the sponsored web-links include specific web-links corresponding to specific keywords.

22. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the related information generating component causes displaying on the electronic device keywords related to content accessed by the user via the electronic device.

23. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the sponsored information is maintained in an operator server.

24. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for accessing the operator server for the sponsored information.

25. The apparatus of claim 24 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for accessing the operator server from the electronic device via a communication link.

26. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein the sponsored information is maintained per agreements between the operator and one or more sponsors.

27. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for periodically accessing the operator server and downloading sponsored information.

28. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for accessing the storage for sponsored information related to a selected keyword, upon selection of one or more of the keywords by the user via the electronic device.

29. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein:

the sponsored information includes sponsored dynamic web-links; and

the sponsored services component is configured for generating a static web-link from the dynamic web-link based on a selected keyword, and providing the static web-link to the user.

30. The apparatus of claim 29 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for generating the static web-link by combining the dynamic web-link with a selected keyword.

31. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for searching the sponsored information for sponsored web-links related to a selected keyword.

32. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the electronic device comprises a consumer electronics (CE) device.

33. A system for providing sponsored information on an electronic device, comprising:

a related-information generating component configured for determining information of interest to the user as relevant information;

a sponsored services component configured for accessing sponsored information and providing sponsored information based on said relevant information; and

a client module configured for displaying the sponsored information.

34. The system of claim 33 wherein:

the related-information generating component is further configured for providing a user with one or more keywords related to content accessed by the user via the electronic device;

the sponsored services component is further configured for accessing information maintained in storage to find sponsored information that is related to a selected keyword, to provide to the user.

35. The system of claim 34 wherein the client module is configured for displaying the sponsored information for a selected keyword to the user.

36. The system of claim 34 wherein the sponsored information includes sponsored web-links.

37. The system of claim 36 wherein the sponsored web-links include specific web-links corresponding to specific keywords.

38. The system of claim 34 wherein the related information generating component causes displaying on the electronic device keywords related to content accessed by the user via the electronic device.

39. The system of claim 34 wherein the sponsored information is maintained in an operator server.

40. The system of claim 39 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for accessing the operator server for the sponsored information.

41. The system of claim 40 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for accessing the operator server from the electronic device via a communication link.

42. The system of claim 39 wherein the sponsored information is maintained per agreements between the operator and one or more sponsors.

43. The system of claim 39 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for periodically accessing the operator server and downloading sponsored information.

44. The system of claim 34 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for accessing the storage for sponsored information related to a selected keyword, upon selection of one or more of the keywords by the user via the electronic device.

45. The system of claim 34 wherein:

the sponsored information includes sponsored dynamic web-links; and

the sponsored services component is configured for generating a static web-link from the dynamic web-link based on a selected keyword, and providing the static web-link to the user.

46. The system of claim 45 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for generating the static web-link by combining the dynamic web-link with a selected keyword.

47. The system of claim 34 wherein the sponsored services component is configured for searching the sponsored information for sponsored web-links related to a selected keyword.

48. The system of claim 34 wherein the electronic device comprises a consumer electronics (CE) device.

50. The method of claim 48 further comprising the step of receiving payment from the sponsor for display of sponsored information.

51. The method of claim 48 wherein:

determining information of interest to the user as relevant information further includes providing a user with one or more keywords related to content accessed by the user via the electronic device;

accessing sponsored information further includes accessing sponsored information related to a selected keyword; and

providing sponsored information based on said relevant information further includes providing the sponsored information for a selected keyword to the user.

52. The method of claim 51 wherein the sponsored information includes sponsored web-links.

53. The method of claim 51 wherein the sponsored web-links include one or more of:

specific web-links corresponding to specific keywords, and dynamic web-links.

54. The method of claim 48 further including the step of maintaining sponsored information in an operator server.

55. The method of claim 54 wherein accessing the storage includes accessing the operator server for the sponsored information.

56. The method of claim 55 wherein accessing the storage further includes accessing the operator server from the electronic device via a communication link.

57. The method of claim 54 wherein maintaining the sponsored information per agreements between the operator and one or more sponsors.

58. The method of claim 54 wherein accessing the storage further includes periodically accessing the operator server and downloading sponsored information.

59. The method of claim 51 wherein accessing sponsored information includes:

upon selection of one or more of the keywords by the user via the electronic device, accessing a storage for sponsored information related to a selected keyword.

60. The method of claim 51 wherein providing the sponsored information for a selected keyword to the user includes displaying said information on the electronic device.

61. The method of claim 51 wherein:

the sponsored information includes sponsored dynamic web-links; and

providing the sponsored information to the user includes generating a static web-link from the dynamic web-link based on a selected keyword, and providing the static web-link to the user.

62. The method of claim 61 wherein generating the static web-link includes generating the static web-link by combining the dynamic web-link with a selected keyword.

63. The method of claim 51 wherein accessing sponsored information related to a selected keyword includes searching the sponsored information for sponsored web-links related to a selected keyword.

64. The method of claim 48 wherein the electronic device comprises a consumer electronics (CE) device.

49. A business method for providing sponsored information on an electronic device, comprising the steps of:

entering into an agreement with a sponsor to provide certain sponsored information on an electronic device;

maintaining the sponsored information;

determining information of interest to the user of the electronic device as relevant information;

accessing the sponsored information; and

providing the sponsored information based on said relevant information.

65. A method for providing sponsored information on an electronic device, comprising the steps of:

determining information related to the user of the electronic device as relevant information;

accessing sponsored information based on said relevant information; and

providing sponsored information based on said relevant information.

66. The method of claim 65 wherein providing sponsored information based on said relevant information includes one or more of:

presenting sponsored information based on a viewed program;

presenting sponsored information based on a genre;

presenting sponsored information probabilistically based on multiple requests; and

presenting sponsored information based on profile items.
