Abstract

A method and apparatus for processing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) receives downlink control information including WTRU-specific MIMO and transport format information and MIMO information for all other WTRUs assigned to the same resource. The WTRU processes received MIMO data based on the downlink control information. The downlink control information may also include transport format information for all other WTRUs assigned to the same RB. The downlink control information may be transmitted via WTRU-specific control signaling. All WTRUs'"'"' MIMO and/or transport format information may be transmitted via resource-specific common control signaling. The downlink control signaling format may include at least one of a number of streams for the WTRU, a number of active WTRUs assigned to the same resource, a spatial channel identity for the WTRU, a MIMO mode, a precoding matrix index and a precoding vector index.

Claims

1. A method for processing multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) transmission, the method comprising:

a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) receiving downlink control information, the downlink control information including WTRU-specific MIMO information and transport format information for the WTRU and common MIMO information for all WTRUs assigned to the same resource; and

the WTRU receiving and processing MIMO data based on the downlink control information.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the WTRU performs joint detection using MIMO information of other WTRUs.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the downlink control information is transmitted via individual control signaling assigned for the WTRU.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the common MIMO information is transmitted via resource-specific common control signaling.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the MIMO information is one of a precoding matrix index (PMI) and a precoding vector index (PVI).

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the downlink control information further includes transport format information for all other WTRUs assigned to the same resource.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the WTRU performs interference cancellation using transport format information of other WTRUs.

8. The method of claim 6 wherein transport format information of all WTRUs is transmitted via resource-specific common control signaling.

9. A method for processing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission, the method comprising:

a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) receiving downlink control information, the downlink control information including at least one of a number of streams for the WTRU, a number of active WTRUs assigned to the same resource and a spatial channel identity for the WTRU; and

the WTRU receiving and processing MIMO data based on the downlink control information.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the downlink control information further includes a MIMO mode.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein the downlink control information further includes one of a precoding matrix index (PMI) and a precoding vector index (PVI).

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the PMI and the PVI are transmitted via resource-specific common control signaling.

13. The method of claim 9 wherein a dedicated reference signal with a precoded pilot is assigned for at least one WTRU, wherein the WTRU generates a channel estimate using the dedicated reference signal and uses the channel estimate in decoding the MIMO data.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein the dedicated reference signal is identified by the spatial channel identity.

15. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for processing multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) transmission, the WTRU comprising:

a receiver for receiving downlink control information and MIMO data, the downlink control information including WTRU-specific MIMO information and transport format information for the WTRU and common MIMO information for all WTRUs assigned to the same resource; and

a MIMO decoder for processing the MIMO data based on the downlink control information.

16. The WTRU of claim 15 wherein the MIMO decoder is configured to perform joint detection using MIMO information of other WTRUs.

17. The WTRU of claim 15 wherein the receiver is configured to receive the downlink control information via WTRU-specific control signaling.

18. The WTRU of claim 15 wherein the receiver is configured to receive the common MIMO information via resource-specific common control signaling.

19. The WTRU of claim 15 wherein the MIMO information is one of a precoding matrix index (PMI) and a precoding vector index (PVI).

20. The WTRU of claim 15 wherein the downlink control information further includes transport format information for all other WTRUs assigned to the same resource.

21. The WTRU of claim 20 wherein the MIMO decoder is configured to perform interference cancellation using transport format information of other WTRUs.

22. The WTRU of claim 20 wherein the receiver is configured to receive transport format information of all WTRUs via resource-specific common control signaling.

23. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for processing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission, the WTRU comprising:

a receiver for receiving downlink control information and MIMO data, the downlink control information including at least one of a number of streams for the WTRU, a number of active WTRUs assigned to the same resource, and a spatial channel identity; and

a MIMO decoder for processing the MIMO data based on the downlink control information.

24. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the downlink control information further includes a MIMO mode.

25. The WTRU of claim 23 wherein the downlink control information further includes one of a precoding matrix index (PMI) and a preceding vector index (PVI).

26. The WTRU of claim 25 wherein the PMI and the PVI are transmitted via resource-specific common control signaling.

27. The WTRU of claim 23 further comprising a channel estimator for generating a channel estimate using a dedicated reference signal assigned for the WTRU, and the MIMO decoder is configured to use the channel estimate in decoding the MIMO data.

28. The WTRU of claim 27 wherein the dedicated reference signal is identified by the spatial channel identity.

29. A method for supporting multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) transmission, the method comprising:

assigning a resource to wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs);

transmitting downlink control information, the downlink control information including WTRU-specific MIMO information and transport format information for each of the WTRUs and common MIMO information for all WTRUs assigned to the same resource; and

transmitting MIMO data.

30. The method of claim 29 wherein the downlink control information is transmitted via individual control signaling assigned to each of the WTRUs.

31. The method of claim 29 wherein the common MIMO information is transmitted via resource-specific common control signaling.

32. The method of claim 29 wherein the MIMO information is one of a preceding matrix index (PMI) and a precoding vector index (PVI).

33. The method of claim 29 wherein the downlink control information further includes transport format information for all other WTRUs assigned to the same resource.

34. The method of claim 33 wherein transport format information of all WTRUs is transmitted via resource-specific common control signaling.

35. A method for supporting multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission, the method comprising:

transmitting downlink control information, the downlink control information including at least one of a number of streams for each of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs), a number of active WTRUs assigned to the same resource, and a spatial channel identity for each of the WTRUs; and

transmitting MIMO data.

36. The method of claim 35 wherein the downlink control information further includes a MIMO mode.

37. The method of claim 35 wherein the downlink control information further includes one of a precoding matrix index (PMI) and a preceding vector index (PVI).

38. The method of claim 37 wherein the PMI and the PVI are transmitted via resource-specific common control signaling.

39. The method of claim 35 further comprising transmitting a dedicated reference signal with a precoded pilot for at least one WTRU.

40. The method of claim 39 wherein the dedicated reference signal is identified by the spatial channel identity.

41. A Node-B for supporting multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) transmission, the Node-B comprising:

a controller for generating downlink control information, the downlink control information including wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU)-specific MIMO information and transport format information for each of WTRUs and common MIMO information for all WTRUs assigned to the same resource; and

a transmitter for transmitting the downlink control information and MIMO data.

42. The Node-B of claim 41 wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit the downlink control information via WTRU-specific control signaling.

43. The Node-B of claim 41 wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit common MIMO information via resource-specific common control signaling.

44. The Node-B of claim 41 wherein the MIMO information is one of a precoding matrix index (PMI) and a precoding vector index (PVI).

45. The Node-B of claim 41 wherein the downlink control information further includes transport format information for all other WTRUs assigned to the same resource.

46. The Node-B of claim 45 wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit all transport format information of the WTRUs via resource-specific common control signaling.

47. A Node-B for supporting multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission, the Node-B comprising:

a controller for generating downlink control information, the downlink control information including at least one of a number of streams for a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), a number of active WTRUs assigned to the same resource, and a spatial channel identity; and

a transmitter for transmitting the downlink control information and MIMO data.

48. The Node-B of claim 47 wherein the downlink control information further includes a MIMO mode.

49. The Node-B of claim 47 wherein the downlink control information further includes one of a precoding matrix index (PMI) and a precoding vector index (PVI).

50. The Node-B of claim 49 wherein the transmitter transmits the PMI and the PVI via resource-specific common control signaling.

51. The Node-B of claim 47 wherein the transmitter is configured to send a dedicated reference signal assigned for at least one WTRU.

52. The Node-B of claim 51 wherein the dedicated reference signal is identified by the spatial channel identity.
