Abstract
A measurement system and method are provided for use in characterizing a tissue. The system comprises a probe adapted for operating in either a scan mode or a measure mode, and a control unit for operating the probe. The probe comprises a sensing module for measuring one or more parameters indicative of one or more states of the tissue; and an attachment module configured and operable to enable selective operation of the probe in either one of the scan mode and the measure modes. The control unit is configured and operative to selectively operate the probe in either one of the scan and measure modes.

31. A control unit for use in a measurement system for tissue characterization measurements, the control unit comprising a communication utility for communicating with a probe of the measurement system, and a processor utility operable to identify a degree of attachment between the probe and a tissue under measurements to selectively operate the probe in either one of a scan and measure modes.

32. A method for use in characterizing a tissue site, the method comprising:
- controlling the operation of a sensing module located within a probe, to selectively shift said sensing module from a scan mode into a measure mode, upon detecting existence of a predetermined attachment condition between the sensing module and the tissue site.

35. A method for use in characterizing a tissue site, the method comprising:
-
providing a probe comprising a sensing module, which comprises at least one sensor configured to measure one or more parameters indicative of one or more states of the tissue; providing a vacuum system comprising a vacuum source for providing suction to the probe, and an attachment controller utility connectable to the vacuum source, said attachment controller utility being configured and operable to be regulated by a processor to selectively operate the probe in either one of a scan mode and a measure mode; activating the vacuum system to operate the probe in the scan mode; bringing the probe to the tissue site; and placing the probe against the tissue site, thereby adjusting the probe to the measure mode to enable the measurement by the sensor of the one or more parameters indicative of one or more states of the tissue at the tissue site. - View Dependent Claims (36, 37, 38, 39, 40)
