Abstract

A computer implemented method and system for monitoring a business process of an executing business application. Runtime information of a business process element of the executing business application is received. The runtime information is then associated with design time information of the executing business application by a processor. Next, a representation of the business process associated with the business process element is generated to determine a problem in the business process of the executing business application.

Claims

1. A method of monitoring a business process of an executing business application, the method comprising:

receiving runtime information of a business process element of the executing business application;

associating the runtime information with design time information of the executing business application; and

generating a representation of the business process associated with the business process element to determine a problem in the business process of the executing business application.

2. A method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the design time information includes a business process ID identifying a business process model on which the business process is based.

3. A method in accordance with claim 2, wherein the design time information further includes a business process element ID identifying a business process element of the business process.

4. A method in accordance with claim 3, wherein the runtime information includes a business process instance ID identifying a runtime instance of the business process model.

5. A method in accordance with claim 4, wherein the runtime information further includes a description of an action of the business process element.

6. A method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising receiving, with the runtime information, a link to a page in a server that contains additional information of the problem.

7. A method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising displaying, in an electronic graphical display, the representation of the business process associated with the business process element.

8. A computer-implemented method of monitoring a business application, the computer-implemented method comprising:

each business process reporting information about a status of operation to a business process monitor system;

the business process monitor system collecting the information, generating a list of business processes of the business application, and selecting particular business processes from the list of business processes to generate a graphical view of at least a portion of the business application based on a business process model and according to the status of operation of each business process.

9. A computer-implemented method in accordance with claim 8, further comprising selecting, based on an instruction from a user, a selected business process from the list of business processes for which to receive further information about the status of operation.

10. A computer-implemented method in accordance with claim 8, wherein the information includes a business process ID identifying a business process model on which each business process is based.

11. A computer-implemented method in accordance with claim 10, wherein the information further includes a business process element ID identifying a business process element of the business process.

12. A computer-implemented method in accordance with claim 8, wherein the information includes a business process instance ID identifying a runtime instance of a business process model on which each business process is based.

13. A computer-implemented method in accordance with claim 9, wherein the further information includes a description of an action of a business process element of the business process.

14. A computer-implemented method in accordance with claim 13, wherein the further information includes a link to a page in a server that contains additional information of the problem.

15. A computer-implemented method in accordance with claim 8, further comprising:

using the business process model to analysis a problem in the business application.

16. A computer-implemented method in accordance with claim 15, wherein the analysis of the problem includes a modified graphical view of the at least the portion of the business application.
