determining a computer identifier for the client computer, the computer identifier being assigned to the client computer based on data received from the client computer; receiving a first request from the client application to display the advertisement, the first request including the computer identifier assigned to the client computer; transmitting a second request to the advertisement database, the second request including an advertisement identifier assigned to the advertisement; identifying a display limit, the display limit being a number of times that the client computer is permitted to display the advertisement; determining a number of times that the advertisement has been displayed by the client computer based on at least one of the computer identifier and the advertisement identifier; comparing the number of times the advertisement has been displayed to the display limit; and providing the client computer with access to display the advertisement based on the comparison. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)

18. A method for controlling access to clickable advertisements in a network, comprising:

assigning an identifier to a client computer; receiving a request from a client application operating on the client computer to view one or more clickable advertisements, the request including the identifier assigned to the client computer, each of the one or more clickable advertisements having a display limit, the display limit is a number of times that the client computer is permitted to click on a clickable advertisement; determining a number of times each of the one or more clickable advertisements has been clicked on by the client computer based on the identifier; and making available to the client computer only the clickable advertisements of the one or more clickable advertisements that have been determined to have been clicked on fewer times than their corresponding display limit. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20)
