Abstract

A system includes a personal wireless mobile communication device that is configured to transmit a short-range wireless signal. The short-range wireless signal is processed by a server, and the server executes an action based on the short-range wireless signal. In an embodiment, the action executed by the server is the creation of an Interactive session on a display unit as a function of the short-range wireless signal.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a personal wireless mobile communication device;

a local server; and

a display unit;

wherein the personal wireless mobile communication device is configured to transmit a short-range wireless signal to the local server;

wherein the local server is configured to transmit content to the display unit; and

wherein the local server is further configured to alter the content on the display unit as a function of the short-range wireless signal, thereby creating an interaction between the personal wireless mobile communication device and the content on the display unit.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising a signal collector, the signal collector configured to receive the short-range wireless signal transmitted by the personal wireless mobile communication device, the signal collector further configured to transmit information to the local server as a function of the short-range wireless signal.

3. The system of claim 1, further comprising a global server, the global server configured to provide the content to the local server.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the global server comprises an interface to permit a third party to provide content.

5. The system of claim 3, wherein the global server permits the third party to provide customized advertising.

6. The system of claim 3, wherein the global server comprises a website, the website configured to redeem a sales incentive, the sales incentive generated as a function of the transmission of the short-range wireless signal by the personal wireless mobile communication device.

7. The system of claim 3, further comprising:

a local network, the local network coupling the local server, the personal wireless mobile communication device, and the display unit; and

a global network, the global network coupling the global server to the local server.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the display unit comprises a public display unit.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the public display unit includes one or more of a movie theatre screen, a JumboTron®

display unit, a large HD display unit, a display unit in a commercial establishment, an electronic billboard, an electronic poster, a kiosk, a display unit in a classroom, and a video unit in a transportation vehicle.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the system is further configured to display the content on the movie theatre screen prior to a feature presentation.

11. The system of claim 1, further comprising a point of sale device, the point of sale device coupled to the local server.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the point of sale device is configured to redeem a sales incentive as a function of the short-range wireless signal transmitted from the personal wireless mobile communication device.

13. The system of claim 1, wherein the content on the display unit relates to one or more of an advertisement, a sale of a good or service, a game, and multimedia content.

14. The system of claim 1, wherein the local server is further configured to provide one or more of visual content, audio content, text content, and downloadable content to the personal wireless mobile communication device.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the one or more of visual content, audio content, text content, and downloadable content comprises an advertisement.

16. The system of claim 1, wherein the personal wireless mobile communication device includes one or more of a mobile telephone, a personal digital assistant, a palmtop communication device, a personal gaming device, and a laptop computer.

17. A personal wireless mobile communication device, the personal wireless mobile communication device configured to transmit a short-range wireless signal to a local server, the local server configured to transmit content to a display unit, the local server further configured to alter the content on the display unit as a function of the short-range wireless signal, thereby creating an interaction between the personal wireless mobile communication device and the content on the display unit.

18. The personal wireless communication device of claim 17, wherein the display unit is a public display unit which includes one or more of a movie theatre screen, a JumboTron®

display unit, a large HD display unit, a display unit in a commercial establishment, an electronic billboard, an electronic poster, a kiosk, a display unit in a classroom, and a display unit in a transportation vehicle.

19. The personal wireless communication device of claim 18, wherein the movie theatre screen displays the interaction prior to a feature presentation.

20. The personal wireless communication device of claim 17, wherein the personal wireless communication device is configured to be coupled to a point of sale device through the local server, and further wherein the personal wireless communication device is configured to receive a sales incentive at the point of sale device as a function of the interaction between the personal wireless mobile communication device and the display unit.

21. The personal wireless communication device of claim 17, wherein the personal wireless mobile communication device includes one or more of a mobile telephone, a personal digital assistant, a palmtop communication device, a personal gaming device, and a laptop computer.

22. A system comprising:

a public display unit;

a personal wireless mobile communication device;

a local server, the local server coupled to the public display unit; and

a signal collector, the signal collector coupled to the personal wireless mobile communication device and the local server;

wherein the local server is configured to provide content to the public display unit;

wherein the personal wireless communication device is configured to transmit a short-range wireless signal to the signal collector, and wherein the signal collector is configured to transmit information to the local server as a function of the short-range wireless signal; and

wherein the short-range wireless signal is for creating an interaction between the personal wireless mobile communication device and the public display unit.

23. The system of claim 22, further comprising a plurality of signal collectors and a plurality of personal wireless mobile communication devices, wherein each of the plurality of personal wireless communication devices is configured to transmit the short-range wireless signal to one or more of the plurality of signal collectors;

wherein the plurality of signal collectors transmit information to the local server as a function of the plurality of short-range wireless signals; and

further wherein the local server processes the plurality of short-range wireless signals and alters the content on the public display unit as a function of the processing of the plurality of the short-range wireless signals.

24. The system of claim 23, further comprising a global server, the global server coupling the local server with one or more other local servers, the one or more other local servers associated with one or more other public display units.

25. The system of claim 22, further comprising a point of sale device, the point of sale device coupled to the local server.

26. The system of claim 22, wherein the public display unit includes one or more of a movie theatre screen, a JumboTron®

display unit, a large HD display unit, a display unit in a commercial establishment, an electronic billboard, an electronic poster, a kiosk, a display unit in a classroom, and a display unit in a transportation vehicle.

27. The system of claim 26, wherein the system is further configured to display the interaction on the movie theatre screen prior to a feature presentation.

28. A machine readable medium comprising instructions to execute a process to:

display content on a display unit;

receive a short-range wireless signal from a personal wireless mobile communication device; and

create an interaction on the display unit as a function of the short-range wireless signal.

29. The machine readable medium of claim 28, further comprising instructions to download software onto the personal wireless communication device, thereby enabling the personal wireless communication device to transmit the short-range wireless signal to a local server associated with the machine readable medium.

30. The machine readable medium of claim 29, further comprising instructions to transmit content to the personal wireless communication device.

31. The machine readable medium of claim 28, wherein the display unit includes one or more of a movie theatre screen, a JumboTron®

display unit, a large HD display unit, a display unit in a commercial establishment, an electronic billboard, an electronic poster, a kiosk, a display unit in a classroom, and a display unit in a transportation vehicle.

32. The machine readable medium of claim 31, further comprising instructions to display the interaction on the movie theatre screen prior to a feature presentation.

33. The machine readable medium of claim 28, further comprising instructions to establish a sales incentive as a function of receiving the short-range wireless signal.

34. The machine readable medium of claim 28, wherein the received short-range wireless signal originates from one or more of a mobile telephone, a personal digital assistant, a palmtop communication device, and a laptop computer.

35. A process comprising:

receiving a short-range wireless signal from a personal wireless mobile communication device;

processing the short-range wireless signal; and

creating an interaction on a display unit as a function of the short-range wireless signal.

36. The process of claim 35, wherein the creation of an interaction on a display unit occurs at one or more of a movie theatre, a sports arena, a nightclub, a classroom, and a meeting room.

37. The process of claim 35, wherein the interaction includes one or more of a game, a survey, a trivia contest, a dissemination of information, and a video segment.

38. The process of claim 35, further comprising generating a sales incentive as a function of the interaction on the display unit.

39. The process of claim 35, further comprising providing voice amplification in connection with the interaction on a display unit.

40. A system comprising:

a personal wireless mobile communication device; and

a server;

wherein the personal wireless mobile communication device is configured to transmit a short-range wireless signal to the server; and

wherein the server is configured to process the short-range wireless signal and execute an action as a function of the short-range wireless signal.

41. The system of claim 40, wherein the action executed by the server includes one or more of transmitting video content to a display unit and transmitting control commands to a mechanical-electrical device.

42. A system comprising:

a personal wireless mobile communication device;

a local server; and

a mechanical-electrical device;

wherein the personal wireless mobile communication device is configured to transmit a short-range wireless signal to the local server;

wherein the local server is configured to transmit control signals to the mechanical-electrical device; and

wherein the local server is further configured to control the mechanical-electrical device using the short-range wireless signal, thereby creating an interaction between the personal wireless mobile communication device and the mechanical-electrical device.

43. A personal wireless mobile communication device, the personal wireless mobile communication device configured to transmit a short-range wireless signal to a local server, the local server configured to transmit control signals to a mechanical-electrical device, the local server further configured to control the mechanical-electrical device using the short-range wireless signal, thereby creating an interaction between the personal wireless mobile communication device and the mechanical-electrical device.

44. A machine readable medium comprising instructions to execute a process to:

control a mechanical-electrical device;

receive a short-range wireless signal from a personal wireless mobile communication device; and

create an interaction between the personal wireless mobile communication device and the mechanical-electrical device as a function of the short-range wireless signal.

45. A process comprising:

receiving a short-range wireless signal from a personal wireless mobile communication device;

processing the short-range wireless signal; and

creating an interaction between the personal wireless mobile communication device and a mechanical-electrical device.
