Abstract

The invention comprises a method and apparatus for adjusting a distribution schedule controlling distribution of network device configuration changes associated with a plurality of network devices. Specifically, the method comprises determining a distribution status of the distribution of network device configuration changes, comparing the distribution status to the distribution schedule, and adjusting the distribution schedule in response to a difference between the distribution schedule and the distribution status.

Claims

1. A method for adjusting a distribution schedule controlling distribution of network device configuration changes associated with a plurality of network devices, comprising:

determining a distribution status of said distribution of network device configuration changes;

comparing said distribution status to said distribution schedule; and

adjusting said distribution schedule in response to a difference between said distribution schedule and said distribution status.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said distribution schedule comprises at least one assignment of at least one network device configuration change to at least one processing thread.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein said at least one assignment comprises at least one respective network device configuration change completion time associated with said at least one network device configuration change.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said difference between said distribution schedule and said distribution status exceeds at least one threshold value.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein said comparing of said distribution status to said distribution schedule comprises:

comparing a distribution status time to a distribution schedule time.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein a difference between said distribution status time and said distribution schedule time exceeds at least one threshold value.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said determining of said distribution status of said distribution of network device configuration changes is performed continuously.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said determining of said distribution status of said distribution of network device configuration changes is performed periodically.

9. A computer readable medium storing a software program that, when executed by a computer, causes the computer to perform a method, comprising:

determining a distribution status of distribution of network device configuration changes;

comparing said distribution status to said distribution schedule; and

adjusting said distribution schedule in response to a difference between said distribution schedule and said distribution status.

10. The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein said distribution schedule comprises at least one assignment of at least one network device configuration change to at least one processing thread.

11. The computer readable medium of claim 10, wherein said at least one assignment comprises at least one respective network device configuration change completion time associated with said at least one network device configuration change.

12. The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein said difference between said distribution schedule and said distribution status exceeds at least one threshold value.

13. The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein said comparing of said distribution status to said distribution schedule comprises:

comparing a distribution status time to a distribution schedule time.

14. The computer readable medium of claim 13, wherein a difference between said distribution status time and said distribution schedule time exceeds at least one threshold value.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein said determining of a distribution status of said distribution of network device configuration changes is performed continuously.

16. The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein said determining of a distribution status of said distribution of network device configuration changes is performed periodically.

17. An apparatus for adjusting a distribution schedule controlling distribution of network device configuration changes associated with a plurality of network devices, comprising:

means for determining a distribution status of said distribution of network device configuration changes;

means for comparing said distribution status to said distribution schedule; and

means for adjusting said distribution schedule in response to a difference between said distribution schedule and said distribution status.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein said distribution schedule comprises at least one assignment of at least one network device configuration change to at least one processing thread.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein said at least one assignment comprises at least one respective network device configuration change completion time associated with said at least one network device configuration change.

20. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein said comparing means compares a distribution status time to a distribution schedule time.
