Abstract

A system and method for providing location information is provided. The system may include a communication device. The communication device may include a communication interface to receive a notice of an incoming communication. The communication device may also include a display to display a representation of a present location of a calling party and to display a representation of a location of the communication device.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving notification of an incoming communication at a communication device associated with a called party;

receiving location data indicating a location of a calling party;

displaying a representation of the location of the calling party at the communication device before the incoming communication is answered by the called party; and

displaying a representation of a location of the called party at the communication device.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying data indicating a distance between the calling party and the called party at the communication device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the location of the calling party is determined based on global positioning system (GPS) information.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying data indicating an estimated travel time from the called party to the calling party.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the representation of the location of the calling party and the representation of the location of the called party are displayed concurrently.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying travel directions from the called party to the calling party.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying travel directions from the calling party to the called party.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying data indicating a communication path taken by the incoming communication to reach the communication device.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the communication device comprises a mobile communication device.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the communication device comprises a wireline communication device.

5. The method of claim I, wherein the representation of the location of the called party is displayed after the communication is answered.

12. A communication device comprising:

a communication interface to receive a notice of an incoming communication; and

a display to display a representation of a location of a calling party before the incoming communication is answered and to display a representation of a location of the communication device.

13. The device of claim 12, further comprising a location determination module to determine the location of the communication device.

14. The device of claim 12, further comprising a mapping module to prepare a map including the representation of the location of the calling party and the representation of the location of the communication device.

15. The device of claim 12, wherein the location of the communication device is substantially stationary.

16. The device of claim 12, further comprising a memory including data indicating the location of the communication device.

17. A computer readable medium comprising computer readable instructions, wherein the computer readable instructions are executable by a computer to:

receive notification of an incoming communication at a communication device associated with a called party;

receive location data indicating a location of a calling party before the incoming communication is answered by the called party; and

generate a display at the communication device, the display including a representation of the location of the calling party and a representation of a location of the communication device.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the location data comprises a city.

19. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the location data comprises a state.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the location data comprises a country.

21. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the location data comprises a coordinate position.

22. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the computer readable instructions are executable to generate a display including the representation of the location of the calling party before the communication is answered, and to generate a representation of the location of the calling party and a representation of the location of the called party after the communication is answered.

23. The computer readable medium of claim 22, wherein the computer readable instructions are executable to generate a display including additional information about the location of the calling party and the location of the called party in response to user input after the communication is answered.

24. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the instructions are further executable to update the representation of the location of the calling party.

25. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the instructions are further executable to update the representation of the location of the called party.
