Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, by a directory service, a call from a user of a mobile phone requesting a number of a communication device associated with a callee. The number is then retrieved from a database by the directory service and then dialed to connect the mobile phone with the communication device. The directory service also sends the number to the mobile phone, the mobile phone being configured to store the number in a storage location. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a directory service, a call from a user of a mobile phone requesting a number of a communication device associated with a callee;

retrieving the number from a database;

transferring the call to connect the mobile phone with the communication device; and

sending the number to the mobile phone, the mobile phone being configured to store the number in a storage location.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the sending of the number is performed by the directory service.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the sending of the number comprises:

detecting, by a service provider of the mobile phone, the number; and

sending the number to the mobile phone by the service provider.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the storage location comprises a list of recently dialed numbers.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the directory service comprises a third generation wireless network service.

6. The method of claim 3 further comprising sending, by the service provider, call record information associated with the call to the mobile phone.

7. The method of claim 4 wherein the mobile phone is configured to store the call record information in the storage location.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the directory service comprises an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile phone comprises an Internet Protocol (IP) wireless phone.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile phone comprises a code-division multiple access (CDMA) digital cellular telephone.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile phone comprises a global system for communications (GSM) phone.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile phone comprises a universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) phone.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile phone comprises a dual-mode phone, which operable as a VoIP phone over a wireless (WiFi) connection when a WiFi VoIP service is available, or, alternatively, in accordance with a different protocol when the WiFi VoIP service is unavailable.

14. Logic encoded in one or more tangible media for execution and when executed operable to:

receive a directory service call from a user of a mobile phone that requests a number of a phone device associated with a callee;

retrieve the number from a database that includes an entry associated with the callee;

transferring the call to connect the mobile phone of the user with the phone device of the callee; and

send the number to the mobile phone, the mobile phone being configured to receive and store the number.

15. The logic of claim 14 wherein the number is sent by the directory service.

16. The logic of claim 14 wherein execution of the one or more media is further operable to:

detect the number by a service provider of the mobile phone; and

send the number to the mobile phone by the service provider.

17. The logic of claim 14 wherein execution of the one or more media is further operable to send call record information associated with the directory service call to the mobile phone.

18. The logic of claim 14 wherein the mobile phone comprises a mobile phone.

19. The logic of claim 14 wherein the mobile phone comprises an Internet Protocol (IP) phone.

20. The logic of claim 14 wherein the mobile phone comprises an Internet Protocol (IP) wireless phone.

21. The logic of claim 14 wherein the mobile phone comprises a code-division multiple access (CDMA) digital cellular telephone.

22. The logic of claim 14 wherein the mobile phone comprises a global system for communications (GSM) phone.

23. The logic of claim 14 wherein the mobile phone comprises a universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) phone.

24. The logic of claim 14 wherein the mobile phone wherein the mobile phone comprises a dual-mode phone which operable as a VoIP phone over a wireless (WiFi) connection when a WiFi VoIP service is available, or, alternatively, in accordance with a different protocol when the WiFi VoIP service is unavailable.

25. An apparatus comprising:

a display;

one or more processors; and

a memory comprising one or more instructions executable at the processors, the one or more processors being operable, when executing the instructions, to;

receive a number of a phone device associated with a callee from a directory service via a wireless network;

store the number in a storage location associated with a list of recently dialed telephone calls; and

display on the display the list of recently dialed telephone calls.

26. The apparatus of claim 25 further comprising a keypad, and wherein responsive to input received from the keypad, the one or more processors being further operable to store the number in another storage location associated with a speed dialing list of telephone numbers.

27. The apparatus of claim 25 further comprising a keypad, and wherein responsive to input received from the keypad, the one or more processors being further operable to store the number in another storage location associated with a directory of telephone numbers.

28. The apparatus of claim 27 wherein the directory of telephone numbers includes a name of a callee associated with each of the telephone numbers.

29. The apparatus of claim 27 wherein the wireless network comprises a third generation (3G) wireless network.

30. A method comprising:

calling, by a mobile phone, a directory service to request a number of a phone device associated with a callee;

receiving, by the mobile phone, a number of a phone device associated with a callee;

storing the number in a storage location associated with a list of recently dialed phone calls placed from the mobile phone; and

displaying, in a user interface display window, the list of recently dialed phone calls.

31. The method of claim 30 wherein the directory service comprises a third generation wireless network service.

32. The method of claim 30 further comprising calling the number responsive to input received.

33. The method of claim 30 further comprising adding the number to a speed dialing list of phone numbers responsive to input received.
