Abstract

The invention relates to a method for decoding an audio signal, to allow an audio signal to be compressed and transferred more efficiently. The inventive method comprises steps of receiving an audio signal with spatial information signal, obtaining location information using the number of time slot and parameter of audio signal, establishing a multi-channel audio signal by applying spatial information signal to down-mix signal, and performing a multi-channel array for a multi-channel audio signal in response to the output channel.

Claims

1. A method of decoding an audio signal, comprising:

receiving the audio signal including an audio descriptor;

recognizing that the audio signal includes a downmix signal and a spatial information signal using the audio descriptor;

upmixing the downmix signal into a multi-channel audio signal, using the spatial information signal; and

mapping the multi-channel audio signal to an output channel according to a preset arrangement,

wherein the spatial information signal includes a header at each periodic or non-periodic temporal interval.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising if the header is included in the spatial information signal, upmixing the downmix signal into the multi-channel audio signal using configuration information included in the header.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising if the header included in the spatial information signal is different from a previously extracted header, detecting that an error occurs in the header.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising if the header is not included in the spatial information signal, upmixing the downmix signal into the multi-channel audio signal by using previously extracted configuration information.

5. The method of any one of claim 1, claim 2 and claim 4, wherein information quantity required for mapping an ith audio signal to the output channel is an minimum integer equal to or greater than log₂[(the number of total audio signals)−

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the mapping the audio signal to the output channel is executed using audio signal mapping information extracted from configuration information included in the header if the header is included in the spatial information signal.
