Abstract

For a platform level data model for indications based event control and data transfer, a management controller may enable performing indications based management operations that may be based on a management service utilizing CIM Indications model. The management controller may enable communication of indications based messaging and/or data. The indications may be triggered based on events generated and/or triggered in a plurality of managed entities. The events generation may be performed dynamically within the plurality of managed entities, or may be initiated via the management controller. The management controller may enable processing of partially generated indications, via the plurality of managed entities, and/or as pass-through router for full indications processed via the plurality of managed entities. The indications based management operations may also comprise subscription related operations wherein the management controller may enable performing processing of subscription requests, modifications, and/or deletions to facilitate external access via the device.

Claims

1. A method for network management, the method comprising:

managing, via a management controller in a device, an indication-based management service in said device;

wherein said management controller is operable to control and/or process indication data and/or messaging communicated external to said device, and/or communicated between said management controller and one or more managed entities within said device.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein said indication-based management service is based on Common Information Model (CIM) data models.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein said managed entities comprise an operating system (OS), a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS), a chipset, sensors, intelligent management devices, and/or one or more secondary management controllers.

4. The method according to claim 1, comprising communicating said indication data and/or messaging between said management controller and said managed entities via one or more management buses.

5. The method according to claim 4, wherein said one or more management buses comprise a System Management Bus (SMBus), and/or a Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCI-e) bus.

6. The method according to claim 1, comprising communicating said indication data and/or messaging between said management controller and said managed entities via a Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP) stack based messaging.

7. The method according to claim 1, comprising performing, via said management controller, indication-based subscription operations in said device.

8. The method according to claim 7, wherein said indication-based subscription operations comprise processing, control, modification, and/or deletion of indication-based subscriptions in said device.

9. The method according to claim 1, comprising generating, via said managed entities, events that trigger generation of said indication data and/or messaging transmitted and/or received via said management controller, based on said indication-based management service.

10. The method according to claim 8, comprising performing said events generation dynamically in said managed entities.

11. The method according to claim 8, comprising perform said events generation via event based traps in said managed entities.

12. The method according to claim 8, comprising initiating, via said management controller, said events generation in said managed entities.

13. The method according to claim 8, comprising performing, via said management controller, indications based logging operations in said device, while performing said events generation;

wherein said logging operations enable creation and/or storage of information utilized to generate, transmit, and/or receive said indicate data and/or messaging.

14. The method according to claim 1, comprising completing processing of partially generated indications transmitted and/or received via one or more of said managed entities, based on said indication-based management service, via said management controller.

15. The method according to claim 1, comprising operating said management controller as pass-through router to enable routing fully generated indications transmitted and/or received via one or more of said managed entities, based on said indication-based management service, external to said device.

16. A system for network management, the system comprising:

one or more processors in a device, said one or more processors comprising a management controller that enable management of an indication-based management service in said device, wherein said management controller is operable to control and/or process indication data and/or messaging communicated external to said device, and/or communicated between said management controller and one or more managed entities within said device.

17. The system according to claim 16, wherein said indication-based management service is based on Common Information Model (CIM) data models.

18. The system according to claim 16, wherein said managed entities comprise an operating system (OS), a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS), a chipset, sensors, intelligent management devices, and/or one or more secondary management controllers.

19. The system according to claim 16, wherein said one or more processors enable communicating said indication data and/or messaging between said management controller and said managed entities via one or more management buses.

20. The system according to claim 19, wherein said one or more management buses comprise a System Management Bus (SMBus), and/or a Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCI-e) bus.

21. The system according to claim 16, wherein said one or more processors enable communicating said indication data and/or messaging between said management controller and said managed entities via a Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP) stack based messaging.

22. The system according to claim 16, wherein said one or more processors enable performing, via said management controller, indication-based subscription operations in said device.

23. The system according to claim 22, wherein said indication-based subscription operations comprise processing, control, modification, and/or deletion of indication-based subscriptions in said device.

The system according to claim 16, wherein said one or more processors enable generating, via said managed entities, events that trigger generation of said indication data and/or messaging transmitted and/or received via said management controller, based on said indication-based management service.

25. The system according to claim 24, wherein said one or more processors enable performing said events generation dynamically in said managed entities.

26. The system according to claim 24, comprising performing said events generation via event based traps in said managed entities.

27. The system according to claim 24, wherein said one or more processors enable initiating, via said management controller, said events generation in said managed entities.

28. The system according to claim 24, wherein said one or more processors enable performing, via said management controller, indications based logging operations in said device, while performing said events generation;

wherein said logging operations enable creation and/or storage of information utilized to generate, transmit, and/or receive said indicate data and/or messaging.

29. The system according to claim 16, wherein said one or more processors enable completing processing of partially generated indications transmitted and/or received via one or more of said managed entities, based on said indication-based management service, via said management controller.

30. The system according to claim 16, wherein said one or more processors enable operating said management controller as pass-through router to enable routing fully generated indications transmitted and/or received via one or more of said managed entities, based on said indication-based management service, external to said device.
