1. A method of reducing interference in a wireless communication system comprising:
- defining a coordination group consisting of at least a first terminal in a first sector and a second terminal in a second sector, the first and second terminals disposed such that an uplink transmission from the first terminal to a basestation causes interference in excess of a defined threshold in the second terminal; and
controlling an operating parameter of the first terminal and a corresponding operating parameter of the second terminal from the basestation to reduce the interference to a level below the defined threshold.

Abstract
Embodiments disclose a method of coordinating reception of uplink transmissions in order to reduce interference among transceivers in an OFDM wireless transmission system, or similar communication system, including a number of receivers communicating with one or more basestations in cell or sector arrangements. A basestation within each sector includes an uplink coordinated reception process that imposes coordinated reception techniques across sector or cell boundaries in order to improve uplink transmission quality between target terminals and basestations within each sector.
