A method of preparing an ionic antimicrobial lens comprising a metal salt, wherein said method comprising the steps of(a) treating an cured ionic lens for a sufficient period of time, with a first solution wherein the pH of said first solution is equal to the pKa of the ionic monomers, that were cured to form said ionic lens;
- (b) adding a metal agent to said first solution and said cured lens after step (a)(c) treating the lens of step (b) with a second solution comprising a salt precursor.
