Abstract

The present disclosure relates generally to systems and methods for learning based device management. In one example, the method includes identifying functions available on a mobile device and determining a usage pattern for each of the functions. A determination is made as to whether each of the functions is to be monitored based on the function'"'"'s usage pattern, and a device management profile is generated that defines monitoring parameters for each of the functions to be monitored.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

identifying a plurality of functions available on a mobile device;

determining a usage pattern for each of the plurality of functions;

determining whether each of the plurality of functions is to be monitored based on the function'"'"'s usage pattern; and

generating a device management profile that at least one monitoring parameter for each of the plurality of functions to be monitored.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein determining a usage pattern for each of the plurality of functions includes determining a frequency of use of each function.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein determining whether each the plurality of functions is to be monitored includes determining whether the frequency of use of each of the plurality of functions exceeds a threshold of use defined for that function.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein determining whether each the plurality of functions is to be monitored includes determining whether the frequency of use of each of the plurality of functions exceeds a threshold of use defined for multiple functions.

The method of claim 2 further comprising identifying a hierarchical position of each of the plurality of functions based on the function'"'"'s frequency of use relative to the other functions, wherein determining whether each of the plurality of functions is to be monitored is based on the hierarchical position of that function.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising sending the device management profile to the mobile device for execution.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising re-evaluating the device management profile to determine whether the device management profile needs to be modified.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the re-evaluating is triggered by the expiration of a defined period of time.

9. The method of claim 7 wherein the re-evaluating is triggered by the occurrence of a predefined event on the mobile device.

10. The method of claim 1 further comprising defining at least one rule based on the monitoring parameters for each of the plurality of functions, wherein the rule is executed on the mobile device to control the monitoring.

11. The method of claim 1 further comprising initiating the monitoring based on the device management profile.

12. A method comprising:

obtaining, by a mobile device, usage information corresponding to a plurality of functions on the mobile device;

monitoring, by the mobile device, at least some of the plurality of functions based on a device management profile defining at least one monitoring parameter corresponding to each of the plurality of functions being monitored, wherein the at least one monitoring parameter is based on the usage information of the corresponding function, and wherein the monitoring obtains data about each of the plurality of functions being monitored; and

sending the data to a network in wireless communication with the mobile device.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising receiving, by the mobile device, the device management profile from the network.

14. The method of claim 12 further comprising generating, by the mobile device, the device management profile.

15. The method of claim 12 further comprising re-evaluating the device management profile to determine whether the device management profile needs to be modified.

16. The method of claim 12 further comprising executing, by the mobile device, a plurality of rules on the mobile device to control the monitoring, wherein the rules are based on the monitoring parameters for the plurality of functions.

17. A mobile device comprising

a wireless network interface;

a processor coupled to the wireless network interface;

a memory coupled to the processor for storing a plurality of instructions executable by the processor; and

a plurality of executable instructions including instructions for;

obtaining usage information corresponding to a plurality of functions on the mobile device;

monitoring at least some of the plurality of functions based on a device management profile defining at least one monitoring parameter corresponding to each of the plurality of functions being monitored, wherein the at least one monitoring parameter is based on the usage information of the corresponding function, and wherein the monitoring obtains data about each of the plurality of functions being monitored; and

sending the data to a network in wireless communication with the mobile device.

18. The mobile device of claim 17 wherein the instructions further include instructions for receiving the device management profile from the network.

19. The mobile device of claim 17 wherein the instructions further include instructions for generating the device management profile.

20. The mobile device of claim 17 wherein the instructions further include instructions for executing a plurality of rules on the mobile device to control the monitoring, wherein the rules are based on the monitoring parameters for the plurality of functions.
