1. A transcutaneous analyte sensor assembly, the assembly comprising:

  • a housing adapted for mounting on a skin of a host; and

    a sensor configured to measure an analyte concentration in the host, wherein the sensor comprises;

    an in vivo portion configured for insertion through the host'"'"'s skin at an exit-site;

    an ex vivo portion extending through the housing and adapted to remain above the host'"'"'s skin after insertion of the sensor; and

    a transition portion located between the in vivo portion and the ex vivo portion and configured to extend through the exit-site after sensor insertion,wherein the sensor possesses an antimicrobial property.
