Abstract

A chronology display is generated for use with a web presentation or other form of network presentation. The chronology display may include a plurality of intervals, with each interval representative of a period of time. In an embodiment, some of the intervals may indicate a number of content items provided on the network presentation during the time period that corresponds to each particular interval. The indication may be provided by a characteristic, such as for example, a color or shading that represents the number of content items provided on the network presentation.

Claims

1. A method for displaying content on an online resource, the method comprising:

generating a chronology display for a network presentation, wherein the chronology display includes a plurality of intervals, each interval representing a corresponding time period;

providing at least some of the plurality of intervals with a characteristic or value that is indicative of a number of content items provided on the network presentation during the time period that corresponds to that interval; and

making the chronology display available with the network presentation.

The method of claim 1, wherein generating a chronology display includes generating the one or more of the plurality of intervals to be selectable to display (i) information that was provided on the network presentation in the time period of the selected interval, or (ii) a state of the network presentation during the time period of the selected interval.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein in response to one of the plurality of intervals being selected, the method further comprises displaying the information that was provided on the network presentation in the time period of the selected interval.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein in response to one of the plurality of intervals being selected, the method further comprises displaying the state of the network presentation in the time period of the selected interval.

The method of claim 3, wherein displaying the state of the network presentation includes displaying one or more of (i) a set of content items that were provided on the network presentation during the time period of the selected interval, or (ii) a set of links to content items that were provided on the network presentation during the time period of the selected interval.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein displaying the state of the network presentation includes replicating at least a majority portion of the network presentation during the time period of the selected interval.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein generating a chronology display includes generating a calendar.

The method of claim 1, wherein providing at least some of the plurality of intervals with an indication of a number of content items provided on the network presentation includes displaying one or more of the intervals to include a characteristic that is indicative of the number of content items provided on the network presentation.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein displaying one or more of the intervals to include a characteristic includes displaying one or more of the intervals to include color or shading that is representative of the number of content items provided on the network presentation during the time period that corresponds to that interval.

10. A system for displaying online content, the system comprising:

one or more modules, including a chronology display module coupled to an online resource, wherein the chronology display module is configured to (i) identify a number of content items provided on the online resource in each of a plurality time periods, and (ii) generate a chronology display having a plurality of intervals, wherein each of the plurality of intervals correspond to one of the plurality of time periods and indicates the number of content items provided on the online resource during the time period that corresponds to that interval.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the chronology display generator is configured to present each of the plurality of intervals to be selectable, and wherein a user-action indicating a selection of one of the plurality of intervals causes the one or more modules to display a state of the online resource during the time period corresponding to the interval of the selection.

The system of claim 10, wherein the chronology display generator is configured to present each of the plurality of intervals to be selectable, and wherein a user-action indicating a selection of one of the plurality of intervals causes the one or more modules to display information presented by the online resource during the time period corresponding to the interval of the selection.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the chronology display is in a form of a calendar.

14. The system of claim 10, wherein the one or more modules are configured to assign a category to the online resource, and to select content items for the online resource by identifying a plurality of content items during individual time periods, and assigning one or more of the identified content items to the online resource based on a subject matter of the one or more content items.

15. The system of claim 10, wherein the chronology display module is configured to display each of the plurality of intervals with a characteristic that is indicative of the number of content items provided on the online resource.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the chronology display is in a form of a calendar, and wherein each of the plurality of intervals corresponds to a day of the calendar.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the characteristic includes a color or shading that is representative of the number of the content items.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the online resource is webpage, and wherein the calendar is displayed with the webpage.

19. The system of claim 16, wherein each of the plurality of intervals contains a character, and wherein each of the characters includes a color or shading that is representative of the number of content items.

20. A web presentation comprising:

a chronology display having a plurality of intervals, wherein the plurality of intervals indicate a number of content items provided on the web presentation during a time period that corresponds to each of the plurality of intervals.

21. The web presentation of claim 20, wherein the chronology display is in a form of a calendar, and wherein each of the plurality of intervals corresponds to a day or other time period of the calendar.

22. The web presentation of claim 21, wherein each of the intervals of the calendar are provided a coloring or shading to indicate the number of content items provided on the web presentation during the time period of that interval.

23. The web presentation of claim 22, wherein each of the intervals of the calendar are selectable to cause a state of the web presentation in the time period of a selected interval to be displayed.
