Abstract

Driving support apparatus, methods, and programs are provided for a hybrid vehicle whose driving power sources are an internal combustion engine and an electric motor operating with electric power supplied from an electric charger. The hybrid vehicle includes a hybrid control device for controlling the internal combustion engine and the electric motor. The apparatus, methods, and programs store travel history data of the hybrid vehicle, calculate a position of the hybrid vehicle, and determine whether a destination is set. If a destination is not set, the apparatus, methods, and programs predict a destination based on the travel history data, and calculate a degree of reliability of the predicted destination based on the travel history data. The apparatus, methods, and programs control the hybrid control device based on the calculated degree of reliability.

Claims

1. A driving support apparatus for a hybrid vehicle whose driving power sources are an internal combustion engine and an electric motor operating with electric power supplied from an electric charger, the hybrid vehicle comprising a hybrid control device for controlling the internal combustion engine and the electric motor, the driving support apparatus comprising:

a memory that stores travel history data of the hybrid vehicle; and

a controller that;

calculates a position of the hybrid vehicle;

determines whether a destination is set;

if a destination is not set, predicts a destination based on the travel history data;

calculates a degree of reliability of the predicted destination based on the travel history data; and

controls the hybrid control device based on the calculated degree of reliability.

2. The driving support apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the controller:

obtains a route to the predicted destination on the basis of the travel history data;

determines whether the calculated degree of reliability is equal to or greater than a predetermined degree; and

if the calculated degree of reliability is equal to or greater than the predetermined degree, controls the hybrid control device on the basis of the obtained route.

3. The driving support apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the controller:

determines a present location of the hybrid vehicle when the vehicle is turned on; and

obtains a route from the present location to the predicted destination on the basis of the travel history data.

4. The driving support apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the controller:

calculates a travel distance to the predicted destination;

determines whether the hybrid vehicle is able to travel to the predicted destination using only the electric motor based on the calculated travel distance;

if it is possible for the hybrid vehicle to travel to the predicted destination using only the electric motor, controls the hybrid control device to activate only the electric motor; and

if the hybrid vehicle is not able to travel to the predicted destination using only the electric motor, controls the hybrid control device to activate both the electric motor and the internal combustion engine in such a manner that the amount of charge remaining in the electric charger becomes a predetermined low limit when the hybrid vehicle arrives at the predicted destination.

5. The driving support apparatus according to claim 1, wherein:

the memory stores geographic data including road type data and slope data;

the controller obtains a route to the predicted destination on the basis of the travel history data; and

if the controller controls the hybrid control device to activate both the electric motor and the internal combustion engine, the controller specifies which sections of the obtained route should be traveled using only the motor and which sections of the obtained route should be traveled using the engine based on at least one of the stored road type data and the stored slope data.

6. The driving support apparatus according to claim 1, wherein:

the travel history data includes routes previously traveled by the hybrid vehicle, each route comprising a plurality of links; and

the controller;

identifies at least one link that the hybrid vehicle is traveling on;

compares the identified at least one link with the links of the routes in the travel history data;

identifies at least one route in the travel history data that includes the identified at least one link; and

obtains a route to the predicted destination from the at least one identified routes.

7. The driving support apparatus according to claim 6, wherein the controller:

obtains one of the at least one identified routes that has been traveled a greatest number of times as the route to the predicted destination.

8. The driving support apparatus according to claim 1, wherein:

the travel history data includes routes previously traveled by the hybrid vehicle, each route comprising a plurality of links, and each route having an associated day and time; and

the controller;

identifies a current day and time;

compares the identified current day and time with the associated days and times in the travel history data;

identifies at least one route in the travel history data whose associated day and time matches the current day and time; and

obtains a route to the predicted destination from the at least one identified routes.

9. The driving support apparatus according to claim 8, wherein the controller:

obtains one of the at least one identified routes that has been traveled a greatest number of times as the route to the predicted destination.

10. A navigation apparatus comprising the driving support apparatus of claim 1.

11. A driving support method for a hybrid vehicle whose driving power sources are an internal combustion engine and an electric motor operating with electric power supplied from an electric charger, the hybrid vehicle comprising a hybrid control device for controlling the internal combustion engine and the electric motor, the method comprising:

storing travel history data of the hybrid vehicle; and

calculating a position of the hybrid vehicle;

determining whether a destination is set;

if a destination is not set, predicting a destination based on the travel history data;

calculating a degree of reliability of the predicted destination based on the travel history data; and

controlling the hybrid control device based on the calculated degree of reliability.

12. The driving support method according to claim 11, further comprising:

obtaining a route to the predicted destination on the basis of the travel history data;

determining whether the calculated degree of reliability is equal to or greater than a predetermined degree; and

if the calculated degree of reliability is equal to or greater than the predetermined degree, controlling the hybrid control device on the basis of the obtained route.

13. The driving support method according to claim 11, further comprising:

determining a present location of the hybrid vehicle when the vehicle is turned on; and

obtaining a route from the present location to the predicted destination on the basis of the travel history data.

14. The driving support method according to claim 11, further comprising:

calculating a travel distance to the predicted destination;

determining whether the hybrid vehicle is able to travel to the predicted destination using only the electric motor based on the calculated travel distance;

if it is possible for the hybrid vehicle to travel to the predicted destination using only the electric motor, controlling the hybrid control device to activate only the electric motor; and

if the hybrid vehicle is not able to travel to the predicted destination using only the electric motor, controlling the hybrid control device to activate both the electric motor and the internal combustion engine in such a manner that the amount of charge remaining in the electric charger becomes a predetermined low limit when the hybrid vehicle arrives at the predicted destination.

15. The driving support method according to claim 11, further comprising:

storing geographic data including road type data and slope data;

obtaining a route to the predicted destination on the basis of the travel history data; and

if the hybrid control device is controlled to activate both the electric motor and the internal combustion engine, specifying which sections of the obtained route should be traveled using only the motor and which sections of the obtained route should be traveled using the engine based on at least one of the stored road type data and the stored slope data.

16. The driving support method according to claim 11, wherein:

the travel history data includes routes previously traveled by the hybrid vehicle, each route comprising a plurality of links; and

the method further comprises;

identifying at least one link that the hybrid vehicle is traveling on;

comparing the identified at least one link with the links of the routes in the travel history data;

identifying at least one route in the travel history data that includes the identified at least one link; and

obtaining a route to the predicted destination from the at least one identified routes.

17. The driving support method according to claim 16, further comprising:

obtaining one of the at least one identified routes that has been traveled a greatest number of times as the route to the predicted destination.

18. The driving support method according to claim 11, wherein:

the travel history data includes routes previously traveled by the hybrid vehicle, each route comprising a plurality of links, and each route having an associated day and time; and

the method further comprises;

identifying a current day and time;

comparing the identified current day and time with the associated days and times in the travel history data;

identifying at least one route in the travel history data whose associated day and time match the current day and time; and

obtaining a route to the predicted destination from the at least one identified routes.

19. The driving support method according to claim 18, further comprising:

obtaining one of the at least one identified routes that has been traveled a greatest number of times as the route to the predicted destination.

20. A computer-readable storage medium storing a computer-executable program usable to support driving of a hybrid vehicle whose driving power sources are an internal combustion engine and an electric motor operating with electric power supplied from an electric charger, the hybrid vehicle comprising a hybrid control device for controlling the internal combustion engine and the electric motor, the program comprising:

instructions for storing travel history data of the hybrid vehicle; and

instructions for calculating a position of the hybrid vehicle;

instructions for determining whether a destination is set;

instructions for, predicting, if a destination is not set, a destination based on the travel history data;

instructions for calculating a degree of reliability of the predicted destination based on the travel history data; and

instructions for controlling the hybrid control device based on the calculated degree of reliability.
