Abstract

A computer readable storage medium includes executable instructions to display video content. A cursor associated with the relative position of the video content is provided. A new cursor position associated with a request for a new relative position of the video content is received. A thumbnail image of the video content corresponding to the new relative position is displayed. The thumbnail image is then transitioned to a full display image.

Claims

1. A computer readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions to:

display video content;

provide a cursor associated with the relative position of the video content;

receive a new cursor position associated with a request for a new relative position of the video content; and

display a reduced-resolution thumbnail image of the video content corresponding to the new relative position.

2. The computer readable storage medium of claim 1 further comprising executable instructions to transition the thumbnail image to a full display image at the new relative position when the cursor is not moved for a predetermined period of time.

3. The computer readable storage medium of claim 2 further comprising executable instructions to resume play of the video content from the new relative position.

4. The computer readable storage medium of claim 1 further comprising executable instructions to pause the video content in response to the request for a new relative position to form paused video content.

5. The computer readable storage medium of claim 4 further comprising executable instructions to display the paused video content with reduced resolution.

6. The computer readable storage medium of claim 5 further comprising executable instructions to visually emphasize the thumbnail image.

7. The computer readable storage medium of claim 1 further comprising executable instructions to receive the video content from a video source.

8. The computer readable storage medium of claim 7 further comprising executable instructions to receive the video content with associated thumbnail images.

9. The computer readable storage medium of claim 8 further comprising executable instructions to receive thumbnail images associated with the video content independently of the video content.

10. The computer readable storage medium of claim 7 wherein the video source is selected from a digital video disc, a compact disc, an Internet server, and a cable network server.

11. A method of delivering video content, comprising:

receiving a request for video content;

locating reduced-resolution thumbnail images associated with the video content;

delivering the thumbnail images and video content to facilitate the use of the thumbnail images to locate desired content within the video content.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

displaying the video content;

providing a cursor associated with the relative position of the video content;

receiving a new cursor position associated with a request for a new relative position of the video content;

displaying a thumbnail image that corresponds to the new relative position; and

transitioning the thumbnail image to a full display image at the new relative position.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising resuming play of the video content from the new relative position.

14. The method of claim 12 further comprising pausing the video content in response to the request for a new relative position to form paused video content.

15. The method of claim 14 further comprising displaying the paused video content with reduced resolution.

16. The method of claim 15 further comprising visually emphasizing the thumbnail image.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein receiving, locating, and delivering are performed at one of a digital video disc, a compact disc, an Internet server, and a cable network server.
