Abstract

A client computer receives a set of search results ordered based on scheduled time of broadcast associated with respective listings of content. The listings of content include data representing time-bounded events. The client computer displays or otherwise presents a set of objects along an axis of a display bar, the objects corresponding to subsets of the search results. For example, the axis is associated with a unit of time or a unit of relevance.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method in a computing system, the method comprising:

receiving a set of search results ordered based on scheduled time of broadcast associated with respective listings of content, the listings of content including data reprsenting time-bounded events; and

presenting a set of objects along a first axis of a display bar, the objects corresponding to subsets of the search results, the first axis being associated with a unit of measurement.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, including responding to user selection of a respective object in the set of objects by displaying information for the subset of search results corresponding to the object.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the unit of measurement corresponds to one of:

a unit of time and a unit of relevance.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising including a second axis that corresponds to a second unit of measurement.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 4, further comprising using a display attribute associated with the set of objects to indicate a third unit of measurement.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5, further comprising stacking multiple objects when the respective multiple objects represent events that are temporally close and when the axis of the display bar corresponds to units of time.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein content associated with the listings is one or more of a set consisting of:

TV content, radio content, video content, movie content, multimedia content, Metadata Site Summary feed content, Multimedia Messaging Service content, games, and music.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

including a slider along the axis of the display bar moving to a new portion of the display bar; and

receiving respective portions of the search results corresponding to the new portion.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, including:

simultaneously displaying a grid containing at least a subset of the search results and the set of objects along the display bar, wherein the display bar is displayed parrallel to the offset from an edge of the grid.

10. A method in a computing system, the method comprising:

executing a search submitted by a user on listings of content to produce a set of search results ordered based on scheduled time of broadcast associated with respective listings of content, the listings of content including data representing time-bounded events; and

sending a set of objects corresponding to at least a subset of the set of search results to a client for presenting along an axis of a display bar, the axis being associated with a unit of measurement.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising selecting the listings to be searched based, at least in part, on a geographic location identifier of the user.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising selecting the listings associated with at least one selected headend.

13. The method of claim 10, including responding to user selection of a portion of the display bar by sending to the client additional search results corresponding to the user selected portion of the display bar.

14. A computer program product embodied on a computer readable medium, the computer program product comprising one or more computer programs that are stored on the computer readable medium and that are exectuable by a computer so as to perform a process, the one or more computer programs of the computer program product comprising:

instructions for receiving a set of search results ordered based on scheduled time of broadcast associated with respective listings of content, the listings of content including data representing time-bounded events; and

instructions for presenting a set of objects along an axis of a display bar, the objects corresponding to subsets of the search results, the axis being associated with a unit of measurement.

15. A client system, comprising:

one or more processors;

memory coupled to the one or more processors;

one or more programs stored in the memory and executable by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including;

instructions for receiving a set of search results ordered based on scheduled time of broadcast associated with respective listings of content, the listings of content including data representing time-bounded events; and

instructions for presenting a set of objects along a first axis of a display bar, the objects corresponding to subsets of the search results, the first axis being associated with a unit of measurement.

16. The client system of claim 15, the one or more programs including instructions for responding to user selection of a respective object in the set of objects by displaying information for the subset of search results corresponding to the object.

17. The cleint system of claim 15, wherein the unit of measurement corresponds to one of:

a unit of time and a unit of relevance.

18. The client system of claim 15, the one or more programs including instructions for presenting the set of objects along the first axis and a second axis that corresponds to a second unit of measurement.

19. The cleint system of claim 18, the one or more programs including instructions for presenting the set of objects using a display attribute associated with the set of objects to indicate a third unit of measurement.

20. The client system of claim 19, further comprising stacking multiple objects when the respective multiple objects represent events that are temporally close and when the first axis of the display bar corresponds to units of time.

21. The client system of claim 15, wherein content associated with the listings is one or more of a set consisting of:

TV content, radio content, video content, movie content, multimedia content, Metadata Site Summary feed content, Multimedia Messaging Service content, games, and music.

22. The client system of claim 15, the one or more programs including instructions for presenting a slider along the axis of the display bar ofr moving to a new portion of the display bar, and receiving respective portions of the search results corresponding to the new portion.

The client system of claim 15, the one or more programs including instructions for simultaneously displaying a grid containing at least a subset of the search results and the set of objects along the display bar, wherein the display bar is displayed parallel to and offset from an edge of the grid.

24. A server system, comprising:

one or more processors;

memory coupled ot the one or more processors;

one or more programs stored in the memory and executable by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including;

instructions for executing a search submitted by a user on listings of content to produce a set of search results ordered based on scheduled time of broadcasst associated with respective listings of content, the listings of content including data representing time-bounded events; and

instructions for sending a set of objects corresponding to at least a subset of the set of search results to a client for presenting along an axis of a display bar, the axis being associated with a unit of measurement.

25. The server system of claim 24, wherein the unit of measurement corresponds to one of:

a unit of time and a unit of relevance.

26. The server system of claim 24, wherein content associated with the listings is one or more of a set consisting of:

TV content, radio content, video content, movie content, multimedia content, Metadata Site Summary feed content, Multimedia Messaging Service content, games, and music.

27. The server system of claim 24, including instructions for selecting the listings to be searched based, at least in part, on a geographic location identifier of the user.

28. The server system of claim 24, including instructions for selecting the listings to be searched in accordance with at least one selected headend.

29. The server system of claim 24, including instructions for responding to user selection of a portion of the display bar by sending to the client additional search results corresponding to the user selected portion of the display bar.
