Abstract

A Gnetum extract having antibacterial activity and antioxidant activity (radical scavenging activity), obtained from Gnetum fruit or Gnetum seed without the need to conduct any special operation. This Gnetum extract exerts various physiological (pharmacological) activities and hence can be used as an active ingredient of food, aliment (nutritional supplement), medicine, cosmetic, etc. The Gnetum extract can be obtained by immersing slices or triturates of Gnetum fruit or Gnetum seed in water or a water-containing organic solvent and performing ripening thereof.

Claims

1. Gnetum extract characterized in that the extract contains extractable material (hereinafter called the “

Gnetum seed extractable material”

) of Gnetum seeds or Gnetum material containing Gnetum seeds (hereinafter called “

Gnetum seed material”

) with water and/or organic solvent used as an extractant.

5. The Gnetum extract according to claim 1, wherein aqueous 50% ethanol solution of the Gnetum extract has an absorption spectrum that indicates the absorption maximum in the neighborhood of 320 nm and also, has a thin-layer chromatogram that indicates the spot in the neighborhood of Rf value 0.5.

7. Reformed vegetable extract characterized in that Gnetum extract according to claim 5 is added and mixed to vegetable extract.

8. Seasoning products comprising the Gnetum extract according to claim 5 as an essential ingredient.

2. Material containing Gnetum extract characterized in that the material is solid-liquid mixture of Gnetum seed material and aqueous extractant which is a mixed solvent of water and polar organic solvent and in that it contains Gnetum seed extractable material.

3. Material containing Gnetum extract according to claim 2 wherein the aqueous extractant contains 15 to 80% polar organic solvent.

4. Gnetum liquors characterized in that the solid content is removed from the material containing Gnetum extract according to claim 3 wherein the polar organic solvent is ethanol.

6. A method of manufacturing material containing Gnetum extract according to claim 2, wherein the material containing Gnetum extract is heated from room temperature to 70°

C. and aged (enzyme reaction).

Gnetum extract concentrated from the extractable material liquid of material containing Gnetum extract according to claim 2, wherein aqueous 50% ethanol solution of the Gnetum extract has an absorption spectrum that indicates the absorption maximum in the neighborhood of 320 nm and also, has a thin-layer chromatogram that indicates the spot in the neighborhood of Rf value 0.5.

11. Reformed vegetable extract characterized in that Gnetum extract according to claim 10 is added and mixed to vegetable extract.

12. Seasoning products comprising the Gnetum extract according to claim 10 as an essential ingredient.

13. Gnetum extract made into preparation form from the extractable material liquid of material containing Gnetum extract according to claim 2, wherein aqueous 50% ethanol solution of the Gnetum extract has an absorption spectrum that indicates the absorption maximum in the neighborhood of 320 nm and also, has a thin-layer chromatogram that indicates the spot in the neighborhood of Rf value 0.5.

14. Reformed vegetable extract characterized in that Gnetum extract according to claim 13 is added and mixed to vegetable extract.

15. Seasoning products comprising the Gnetum extract according to claim 13 as an essential ingredient.

9. Cosmetics characterized in that Gnetum extract is contained as medicinal properties.
