Abstract

An apparatus and method for controlling a built-in microphone of a portable terminal is provided. The method includes detecting a call connection event when a call connection request is received or transmitted; checking information on a currently connected connection device upon detecting the call connection event; and when the information shows that the connected connection device is an earphone, activating a speaker included in the earphone and activating the built-in microphone.

Claims

1. A portable terminal for controlling a built-in microphone of the portable terminal, comprising:

a built-in speaker for outputting an output audio signal;

the built-in microphone for receiving an input audio signal;

a connector for connecting the portable terminal to a connection device, the connection device including at least one speaker to output the output audio signal; and

a controller, upon detecting a call connection event, for determining the connection device is connected to the connector, and for controlling the at least one speaker to output the output audio signal and activating the built-in microphone of the portable terminal to receive the input audio signal.

2. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein, when the connection device is not connected to the connector, the controller activates the built-in speaker and the built-in microphone.

3. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein, when the connection device is a headset having a speaker and a microphone, the controller activates the speaker and the microphone.

4. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the output audio signal is a voice audio signal.

5. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the connector and the connection device are wirelessly connected together.

6. A method of controlling a built-in microphone of a portable terminal, comprising:

determining a connection device is connected to a connector of the portable terminal wherein the connection device includes at least one speaker to output an output audio signal;

detecting a call connection event when a call connection request is received or transmitted; and

controlling the at least one speaker to output the output audio signal and activating the built-in microphone to receive an input audio signal when the call connection event is detected.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising activating a built-in speaker of the portable terminal and the built-in microphone when the connection device is not connected to the connector.

8. The method of claim 6, further comprising activating a speaker and a microphone, both included in a headset, when the connection device is the headset.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the output audio signal is a voice audio signal.

10. The method of claim 6, wherein the connector and the connection device are wirelessly connected together.

11. The method of claim 6, wherein the connection device is an earphone.

14. The portable terminal of claim 11, wherein the connection device is an earphone.

12. A portable terminal for controlling a built-in microphone of the portable terminal, comprising:

means for determining a connection device is connected to a connector of the portable terminal wherein the connection device includes at least one speaker to output an output audio signal;

means for detecting a call connection event when a call connection request is received or transmitted; and

means for controlling the at least one speaker to output the output audio signal and for activating the built-in microphone to receive an input audio signal when the call connection event is detected.

13. The portable terminal of claim 12, wherein the connector and the connection device are wirelessly connected together.

15. A method of controlling a built-in microphone of a portable terminal, comprising:

determining a connection device is connected to a connector of the portable terminal wherein the connection device includes at least one speaker to output an output audio signal; and

controlling the at least one speaker to output the output audio signal and activating the built-in microphone to receive an input audio signal when a voice call connection is established.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the connection device is an earphone.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the connector and the connection device are wirelessly connected together.
