Abstract

In client-server architectures, systems and methods for implementing an extensible resource management platform at a server are described. The extensible resource management platform is developed based on a plug-in based architecture which includes one or more subsystems for performing functions associated with resource management. Different implementations can be provided by new or different components or plug-ins. The resource management platform is thus a platform over which one or more functionalities can be further added to supplement existing and varying functions.

Claims

1. A resource management platform comprising:

a resource manager that interacts with one or more systems that are supported by the management platform;

a condition engine that performs condition based tasks associated with the management platform;

an accounting engine that monitors resource utilization of the one or more systems; and

a configuration store that tracks all extensible plug-ins that are part of the resource management platform.

2. The resource management platform of claim 1, wherein the resource manager performs related processing from the extensible plug-ins.

3. The resource management platform of claim 1, wherein the condition engine receives specific condition based tasks from a condition plug-ins included in the extensible plug-ins.

4. The resource management platform of claim 1, wherein the condition engine performs event driven actions, when specifics provided by a calendar plug-in are received by the condition engine.

5. The resource management platform of claim 1, wherein the accounting plug-in defines one or more parameters for accounting.

6. The resource management platform of claim 5, wherein the one or more parameters include information as to a database that is to be accounted for, a user set for which an accounting record is to be prepared, and a rate used to determine cost incurred.

7. The resource management platform of claim 1, wherein the configuration store provides a mechanism for allowing installation of new plug-ins and uninstallation of old or unused plug-ins.

8. The resource management platform of claim 1 further comprising user requirement extensible plug-ins registered with the configuration store and initialized with parameters from the configuration store 308.

9. The resource management platform of claim 1 further comprising a policy store that stores one or more polices that are implemented by the one or more systems.

10. A server comprising:

a memory;

one or more processors operatively coupled to the memory; and

programs in the memory, wherein the programs include a resource manager for performing resource management, a process engine that implements functionalities of the performing resource management, and one or more plug-ins to extend the resource management.

11. The server of claim 10, wherein the process engine abstracts information from a process request.

12. The server of claim 11, wherein the information is forwarded to at least one plug-in of the one or more plug-ins.

13. The server of claim 10, wherein a plug-in of the one or more plug-ins define specific which supplement the process engine.

14. The server of claim 10, further comprising data that includes one or more of the following:

core data and plug-in data.

15. The server of claim 10, further comprising an accounting process engine for performing accounting operations for a specific user.

16. The server of claim 10, further comprising an operating system kernel, wherein result of the process engine is passed to the operating system kernel.

17. A method for implementing resource management comprising:

receiving a process request related to the resource management;

abstracting process information associated with the process request;

collecting the abstracted process information; and

processing the collected process.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the receiving is generated by an access request from a user.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the abstracted process information is stored as data.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein the processing is based on information included in an extensible plug-in.
