1. A method for compensating data readings from a sensor, comprising the steps of:
- providing a sensor for producing data readings;
associating the sensor with an item to be monitored;
determining calibration coefficients for the sensor subsequent to the step of associating;
providing a memory in proximity to the sensor; and
storing the calibration constants determined in the step of determining in the memory.

Abstract
Calibration constants unique to a particular sensor are derived and stored in a memory with which the sensor is associated and then read from the memory and used to provide compensation for data readings (14). Calibration constants may be derived and stored in the memory following installation of the sensor in an item to be monitored (14).
