Abstract

To provide a recording and reproducing apparatus that recovers contents having approximately the same quality as the original contents in a short time and requiring only light processing load, at the time of (a) moving the contents from the first recording medium to the second recording medium, (b) rewriting the contents in order to disable reproduction of the contents, (c) reconstructing the original contents by recovering the contents from the second recording medium to the first recording medium. The recording and reproducing apparatus includes a move processing unit 72a and a recovery processing unit 73a. The former records reconstruction information on the second recording medium in association with the second contents, the reconstruction information being used in reconstructing one or more parts of the contents that have been rewritten in order to disable reproduction of the contents at the time of moving the contents. Also, the latter reconstructs the original contents based on the remaining contents recorded on the first recording medium by recovering the reconstruction information from the second recording medium and using the reconstruction information.

Claims

1. A recording and reproducing apparatus that moves a first content from a first recording medium to a second recording medium, by generating a second content based on a first content recorded on a first recording medium, recording the generated second content on the second recording medium, and rewriting one or more parts of the first content in order to disable reproduction, comprising:

a moving unit operable to record reconstruction information on the second recording medium in association with the second content; and

a recovery unit operable to recover the first content from the remaining content on the first recording medium by reconstructing the rewritten parts of the first content using the reconstruction information on the second recording medium.

2. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein said moving unit is operable to record, on the second recording medium, a content including a first part corresponding to a second content generated based on a first content and a second part corresponding to reconstruction information.

3. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 2,

wherein said moving unit is operable to additionally write a third part next to the first part, the third part including header information indicating an end position of reproduction of the first part.

4. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 2, further comprising

a conversion unit operable to convert an attribute of the content,

wherein the first part includes the part to be moved whose attribute has been converted by said conversion unit.

5. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 4,

wherein the attribute of the content is a display resolution of the content, and

said conversion unit is operable to convert the display resolution of the content from a first display resolution to a second display resolution.

6. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein the content is an image stream on which inter-frame compression coding has been performed, and

said moving unit is operable to rewrite, in order to disable reproduction of the first content, a part including any of a reference picture and header information of the reference picture in the image stream.

7. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein the content is a stream on which packet multiplexing has been performed, and

said moving unit is operable to rewrite, in order to disable reproduction of the first content, a part including packet identification information of the original content recorded on the original recording medium.

8. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein said moving unit is operable to generate a reference table that enables identifying the addresses of the parts that have been rewritten in order to disable reproduction of the first content, and

said recovery unit is operable to identify the part to be reconstructed referring to the reference table.

9. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein said moving unit is operable to generate map information that enables identifying the addresses of the important data for fast-forward or rewind playback when the first content is not moved yet, and that also enables identifying the addresses of the parts that have been rewritten in order to disable reproduction of the first content, and

said recovery unit is operable to identify the part to be reconstructed referring to the map information.

10. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein said moving unit is operable to rewrite the part in order to disable reproduction of the first content, by any of:

overwriting the part using predetermined data; and

encrypting the part.

11. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein said moving unit is operable to generate the reconstruction information from the data corresponding to the part to be rewritten in order to disable reproduction of the first content.

12. The recording and reproducing apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein said moving unit is operable to generate the reconstruction information using a decryption key that is used for decrypting the part that has been rewritten in order to disable reproduction of the first content by encrypting the part.

A recording medium for use of recording a content including (a) a first part corresponding to a second content generated based on a first content and (b) a second part corresponding to reconstruction information, the reconstruction information being used in reconstructing one or more parts of a content that remains on the first recording medium at the time of recording the second content including the reconstruction information, and the remaining content being generated when the one or more parts of the first content have been rewritten in order to disable reproduction of the first content.

14. A content protection method for generating a second content based on a first content recorded on a first recording medium, and recording the generated second content on the second recording medium, comprising:

recording reconstruction information on the second recording medium in association with the second content, the reconstruction information being used in reconstructing one or more parts of a content that remains on the first recording medium at the time of recording the second content including the reconstruction information, and the remaining content being generated when the one or more parts of the first content have been rewritten in order to disable reproduction of the first content; and

reconstructing the first content based on the remaining content recorded on the first recording medium by recovering the reconstruction information recorded on the second recording medium and using the reconstruction information.

15. A content protection program causing a computer system to execute a content protection method for generating a second content based on a first content recorded on a first recording medium, and recording the generated second content on the second recording medium, the method comprising:

recording reconstruction information on the second recording medium in association with the second content, the reconstruction information being used in reconstructing one or more parts of a content that remains on the first recording medium at the time of recording the second content including the reconstruction information, and the remaining content being generated when the one or more parts of the first content have been rewritten in order to disable reproduction of the first content; and

reconstructing the first content based on the remaining content recorded on the first recording medium by recovering the reconstruction information recorded on the second recording medium and using the reconstruction information.

16. A content protection circuit that generates a second content based on a first content recorded on a first recording medium, and that records the generated second content on the second recording medium, comprising:

a moving unit operable to record reconstruction information on the second recording medium in association with the second content, the reconstruction information being used in reconstructing one or more parts of a content that remains on the first recording medium at the time of recording the second content including the reconstruction information, and the remaining content being generated when the one or more parts of the first content have been rewritten in order to disable reproduction of the first content; and

a recovery unit operable to reconstruct the first content based on the remaining content recorded on the first recording medium by recovering the reconstruction information recorded on the second recording medium and using the reconstruction information.
