Abstract

Lighting systems, in particular used for SSTV, disco lights, lighting consoles and claviluxes. In order to reduce noise and to increase robustness, the system comprises a light beam source (6) arranged for generating a beam of light, a projection gate (8) arranged for controlling the beam of light, wherein the light beam source (6) is comprised of at least one light emitting diode, and the projection gate (8) comprises at least one liquid crystal (LC) optical element.

Claims

1. An optical system for creating dynamic light effects comprising

a light beam source (6) arranged for generating a beam of light,

a projection gate (8) arranged for controlling the beam of light, wherein

the light beam source (6) is comprised of at least one light emitting diode, and

the projection gate (8) comprises at least one liquid crystal (LC) optical element.

2. The optical system of claim 1, wherein the projection gate (8) comprises imaging means (7) for controlling the intensity distribution within the beam of light.

3. The optical system of claim 1, wherein the projection gate (8) comprises beam shaping means (9) for controlling the shape and/or direction of the beam of light.

4. The optical system of claim 1, wherein the projection gate (8) is a segmented cell comprising at least one segment of optical active components for forming an image.

5. The optical system of claim 1, wherein the projection gate (8) comprises anisotropic passive optical elements.

6. The optical system of claim 1, wherein the projection gate (8) comprises nematic liquid crystals.

7. The optical system of claim 1, wherein the projection gate comprises at least two electrodes (16) for aligning the liquid crystals.

8. The optical system of claim 1, wherein the light beam source (6) is comprised of an array of light emitting diodes.

9. The optical system of claim 1, wherein the at least one light emitting diode emits white light.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the array of light emitting diodes comprises

at least one light emitting diode emitting red or magenta coloured light, and/or

at least one light emitting diode emitting yellow or green coloured light, and/or

at least one light emitting diode emitting blue or cyan coloured light.

11. A light projector comprising the system of claim 1.
