Abstract

The application manager 37 conducts “application signaling” when a first disc is replaced with a second disc. At this point, an application is continued if it is written in an application management table assigned to a Title played last on a first disc and also written in an application management table assigned to a Title to be played first on a second disc. On the other hand, an application is ended is it is written in the application management table assigned to the Title played last on the first disc but not written in the application management table assigned to the Title to be played first on the second disc.

Claims

1. A readout apparatus comprising:

a playback unit operable to read and play contents recorded on a 1st disc; and

an application management unit operable to execute one or more applications based on a management table corresponding to each of the contents, wherein

when the 1st disc is exchanged for a 2nd disc, the application management unit

(i) maintains execution of an application shown both in a management table corresponding to a content played last on the 1st disc and in a management table corresponding to a content to be played first on the 2nd disc, and

(ii) terminates execution of an application shown in the management table corresponding to the content played last on the 1st disc but not shown in the management table corresponding to the content to be played first on the 2nd disc.

2. The readout apparatus of claim 1, wherein

the termination by the application management unit is carried out provided that, after the application management unit displays (i) a message informing that the application is still in operation after the 1st disc has been ejected and (ii) a menu questioning a user whether the application should be terminated, the user performs, on the menu, an operation indicating an affirmative answer to the question.

3. The readout apparatus of claim 2, wherein

the application management unit displays the menu after the 2nd disc is loaded.

4. The readout apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a function control unit operable to impose a restriction on a function of an application in operation when the 1st disc is ejected, wherein

the function control unit withdraws the restriction in a case where the application is shown both in the management table corresponding to the content played last on the 1st disc and in the management table corresponding to the content to be played first on the 2nd disc.

5. The readout apparatus of claim 1, wherein

the contents include a digital stream, and

an application shown in the management table corresponding to the content to be played first on the 2nd disc has different playback controls on the digital stream according to whether the 2nd disc is loaded (i) without the 1st disc having been loaded or (ii) after replacing the 1st disc.

6. The readout apparatus of claim 5, wherein

the different playback controls include

(i) to play the digital stream from beginning thereof in a case where the 2nd disc is loaded without the 1st disc having been loaded, and

(ii) to play the digital stream while skipping the beginning in a case where the 2nd disc is loaded after replacing the 1st disc.

7. The readout apparatus of claim 5, wherein

the different playback controls include

(i) to play the digital stream using 1st playback path information in a case where the 2nd disc is loaded without the 1st disc having been loaded, and

(ii) to play the digital stream using 2nd playback path information in a case where the 2nd disc is loaded after replacing the 1st disc.

8. A program causing a computer to execute the steps of:

(a) reading and playing contents recorded on a 1st disc; and

(b) executing one or more applications based on a management table corresponding to each of the contents, wherein

when the 1st disc is exchanged for a 2nd disc, the step (b)

(i) maintains execution of an application shown both in a management table corresponding to a content played last on the 1st disc and in a management table corresponding to a content to be played first on the 2nd disc, and

(ii) terminates execution of an application shown in the management table corresponding to the content played last on the 1st disc but not shown in the management table corresponding to the content to be played first on the 2nd disc.

9. A readout method comprising the steps of:

(a) reading and playing contents recorded on a 1st disc; and

(b) executing one or more applications based on a management table corresponding to each of the contents, wherein

when the 1st disc is exchanged for a 2nd disc, the step (b)

(i) maintains execution of an application shown both in a management table, corresponding to a content played last on the 1st disc and in a management table corresponding to a content to be played first on the 2nd disc, and

(ii) terminates execution of an application shown in the management table corresponding to the content played last on the 1st disc but not shown in the management table corresponding to the content to be played first on the 2nd disc.
