Abstract
Systems and methods for delivering information to a transmitting and receiving device. The device receives a notification alerting a user of the device that information is available to be obtained and, in some embodiments, providing a short description of the information. After receiving the notification at the device, the user can then use the device to obtain or otherwise act on the information at a time and at a place convenient to the user.

81. A method of operating a paging terminal configured to send a notification regarding information available for download to a cell phone, wherein the notification includes an information identifier and an indication of the location of the information, comprising:

(a) the paging terminal sending the notification to the cell phone; (b) the paging terminal determining if an acknowledgement must be received from the cell phone regarding receipt of the notification; (c) if it is determined that an acknowledgement is required and the acknowledgement has not been received by the paging terminal within a predetermined amount of time, then resending the notification to the cell phone; and (d) if it is determined that an acknowledgement is not required, the paging terminal not resending the notification.

82. A method of commanding a remote message system from a cell phone having a user interface with which a user can input a command to the remote message system, comprising:

(a) receiving and storing at the cell phone a notification of an available message, the notification including a message identifier and an indication of the location of the message; (b) receiving at the cell phone at least one command on the user interface of the cell phone, the command to be performed on the available message by the remote message system; (c) determining if wireless service is available to the cell phone; (d) if wireless service is available to the cell phone, then transmitting the command and at least part of the notification from the cell phone to the remote message system using the wireless service; and (e) otherwise, saving the command until such time that it is determined that wireless service is available to the cell phone, and then automatically transmitting the command and at least part of the notification to the remote message system using the wireless service. - View Dependent Claims (83)
