Abstract

A system and method for connecting a social network to a geospatial data repository, comprising: accepting geospatial data from a user; linking the geospatial data to the user in the social network; and allowing the geospatial data to be searched and/or combined with other geospatial data from the user or other users in the social network.

Claims

1. A method for connecting a social network to a geospatial data repository, comprising:

accepting geospatial data from a user;

linking the geospatial data to the user in the social network;

allowing the geospatial data to be searched and/or combined with other geospatial data from the user or other users in the social network.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the geospatial data has a data object identifier which links to a corresponding data object in order to allow the geospatial data to be easily searched and/or combined.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein search results of geospatial data that is searched is ranked based on content and/or a reputation of a contributor of the content.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein semantic relationships are utilized to analyze the geospatial data.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the geospatial data can enter the system in different formats.

2. A method for mapping and/or analyzing geospatial data on a browser based map, comprising:

creating a workspace for a user;

allowing the user to map the user'"'"'s geospatial data and/or analyze the user'"'"'s geospatial data on the user'"'"'s workspace; and

allowing the user to map another user'"'"'s geospatial data and/or analyze the other user'"'"'s geospatial data on the user'"'"'s workspace.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the geospatial data and analysis in the user'"'"'s workspace can be exported and reopened in third party applications.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the geospatial data and analysis can be launched into an application with a command from the user'"'"'s workspace.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the user'"'"'s workspace can also be dropped into an outside web page.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the geospatial data has a data object identifier which links to a corresponding data object in order to allow the geospatial data to be easily mapped and/or analyzed.

8. The method of claim 2, wherein the user'"'"'s geospatial data is linked to the other user'"'"'s geospatial data.

10. The method of claim 2, wherein search results of geospatial data that is searched is ranked based on content and/or a reputation of a contributor of the content.

12. The method of claim 2, wherein semantic relationships are utilized to analyze the geospatial data.

14. The method of claim 2, wherein the geospatial data can enter the system in different formats.

15. A system for connecting a social network to a geospatial data repository, comprising a computer with an application for:

accepting geospatial data from a user;

linking the geospatial data to the user in the social network;

allowing the geospatial data to be searched and/or combined with other geospatial data from the user or other users in the social network.

20. The system of claim 15, wherein the geospatial data has a data object identifier which links to a corresponding data object in order to allow the geospatial data to be easily searched and/or combined.

23. The system of claim 15, wherein search results of geospatial data that is searched is ranked based on content and/or a reputation of a contributor of the content.

25. The system of claim 15, wherein semantic relationships are utilized to analyze the geospatial data.

27. The system of claim 15, wherein the geospatial data can enter the system in different formats.

16. A system for mapping and/or analyzing geospatial data on a browser based map, comprising a computer with an application for:
