Abstract

A learning system, including a centralized reusable learning object (RLO) repository that provides content to users, and communicates user performance data, via SCORM, to and from any one or more distributed, remote SCORM conformant learning management systems. The learning management system may include one or more pointer SCO'"'"'s, which may point to a content delivery engine in the RLO repository.

Claims

1. A learning system, comprising:

a first location including a Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) conformant learning management system;

a second location including;

a communication file;

a SCORM conformant navigation engine; and

content; and

a content window;

wherein the SCORM conformant learning management system, the communication file, the SCORM conformant navigation engine, and the content populate the content window; and

wherein the SCORM conformant learning management system, the communication file, and the SCORM conformant navigation engine communicate user performance data between the SCORM conformant learning management system, the communication file, and the SCORM conformant navigation engine.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising a third location including a SCORM conformant learning management system;

wherein the communication file, the SCORM conformant navigation engine, and the content are centralized between the first location and the third location.

The system of claim 1, wherein the user performance data includes data relating to at least one of a user'"'"'s session information, history, performance, progress, efficiency, effectiveness, personal data, course data, academic data, time spent, standard reached, completion data, most recently viewed content, and completion percentage.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the communication file includes a javascript file.

5. The system of claim 3, wherein the SCORM conformant navigation engine includes an XDS swf engine.

6. The system of claim 3, wherein the second location further comprises a reusable learning object (RLO) repository, wherein the RLO repository includes the content, and wherein the content includes an XML file and an RLO media file.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the SCORM conformant learning management system includes a shareable content object (SCO) link that points to the content in the RLO repository.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the SCORM conformant learning management system includes a first file that requests the communication file to load into the content window.

9. The system of claim 3, wherein the SCORM conformant learning management system further comprises a tracking module, wherein the tracking module and the communication file communicate the user performance data between the tracking module and the communication file.

10. A method for managing user performance data within a learning system, comprising:

providing a first location including any Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) conformant learning management system;

providing a second location including;

a communication file;

a SCORM conformant navigation engine; and

content;

launching a content window from the first location;

populating the content window with data from the SCORM conformant learning management system, the communication file, the SCORM conformant navigation engine, and the content; and

communicating user performance data between the SCORM conformant learning management system, the communication file, and the SCORM conformant navigation engine.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

launching the SCORM conformant learning management system;

navigating to a shareable content object (SCO) pointer; and

activating the SCO pointer.

The method of claim 11, wherein communicating user performance data includes communicating data relating to at least one of a user'"'"'s session information, history, performance, progress, efficiency, effectiveness, personal data, course data, academic data, time spent, standard reached, completion data, most recently viewed content, and completion percentage.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the SCORM conformant learning management system includes a first file, further comprising requesting by the first file the communication file to load into the content window.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the SCORM conformant learning management system further comprises a tracking module;

and wherein communicating user performance data between the SCORM conformant learning management system, the communication file, and the SCORM conformant navigation engine includes communicating user performance data between the tracking module and the communication file.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising requesting by the SCORM conformant navigation engine the content to load into the content window.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the second location further comprises a reusable learning object (RLO) repository, wherein the RLO repository includes the content, and wherein the content includes an XML file and a media file.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising checking to ensure that the content window has installed software necessary to function properly.

18. A learning system, comprising:

a first location including Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) conformant means for managing learning;

a second location including;

communication means;

engine means; and

content; and

means for displaying content;

wherein means for managing learning, communication means, engine means, and the content communicate to populate the means for displaying content.

19. The learning system of claim 18, wherein means for managing learning, communication means, and engine means intercommunicate user performance data.

20. The system of claim 18, further comprising a third location including any second SCORM conformant means for managing learning, wherein second SCORM conformant means for managing learning communicates to populate the means for displaying content.
