Abstract

A system and method of generating a media item recommendation message used to provide a recommendation for a media item by a recommender to a recipient on a media item recommendation system is disclosed. The media item recommendation is generated by including a media item identifier of a media item in a media item recommendation message, presence information of a recommender of the media item, and, optionally, a media item annotation in association with the media item identifier in the media item recommendation message. The media item recommendation message is transmitted to the recipient.

Claims

1. A method of generating a media item recommendation message, comprising the steps of:

including a media item identifier of a media item in a media item recommendation message; and

including presence information of a recommender of the media item in the media item recommendation message, wherein the presence information is associated with the media item identifier.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of transmitting the media item recommendation message to a recipient.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the presence information comprises metadata.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the metadata comprises a uniform resource locator.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the including a media item identifier comprises selecting the media item to recommend from a media item playlist.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the including presence information comprises selecting the presence information from a media item playlist.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the presence information comprises at least one component comprised from a group consisting of:

an audio component, an image component, and a text component.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the audio component comprises an announcement track.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the announcement track comprises certain characteristics based on tempo, genre, artist, or album.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the presence information comprises the presence information of a plurality of recommenders of the media item.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of including a media item annotation in the media item recommendation message, wherein the media item annotation is associated with the media item identifier.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the media item annotation comprises metadata.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the metadata comprises a uniform resource locator.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the including a media item annotation comprises selecting the media item annotation from a media item playlist.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the media item annotation comprises at least one component comprised from a group consisting of:

an audio component, an image component, or a text component.

16. A system for generating a media item recommendation, comprising:

a control system, wherein the control system is adapted to;

include a media item identifier of a media item in a media item recommendation message; and

include presence information of a recommender of the media item in the media item recommendation message, wherein the presence information is associated with the media item identifier.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the control system is further adapted to transmit the media item recommendation message to a recipient.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the presence information comprises metadata.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein the metadata comprises a uniform resource locator.

20. The system of claim 16, wherein the control system is adapted to include the media item identifier by selecting the media item to recommend from a media item playlist.

21. The system of claim 16, wherein the control system is adapted to include presence information by selecting the presence information from a media item playlist.

22. The system of claim 16, wherein the presence information comprises at least one component comprised from a group consisting of:

an audio component, an image component, and a text component.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the audio component comprises an announcement track.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the announcement track comprises certain characteristics based on tempo, genre, artist, or album.

25. The system of claim 16, wherein the presence information comprises the presence information of a plurality of recommenders of the media item.

26. The system of claim 16 wherein the control system is further adapted to include a media item annotation in the media item recommendation message in association with the media item identifier.

27. The system of claim 26, wherein the media item annotation comprises metadata.

28. The system of claim 27, wherein the metadata comprises a uniform resource locator.

29. The system of claim 26, wherein the control system is adapted to include a media item annotation by selecting the media item annotation from a media item playlist.

30. The system of claim 26, wherein the media item annotation comprises one or more components comprised from a group consisting of:

an audio component, an image component, and a text component.

31. A computer-readable medium, comprising instructions for instructing a computer to:

generate a media item recommendation message, wherein the media item recommendation message, comprises;

a media item identifier of a media item; and

presence information of a recommender of the media item, wherein the presence information is associated with the media item identifier.

32. The computer-readable medium of claim 31, further comprising instructions for instructing a computer to transmit the media item recommendation message to a recipient.

33. The computer-readable medium of claim 31, wherein the presence information comprises metadata.

34. The computer-readable medium of claim 33, wherein the metadata comprises a uniform resource locator.

35. The computer-readable medium of claim 31, wherein the media item identifier is selected from a media item playlist.

36. The computer-readable medium of claim 31, wherein the presence information is selected from a media item playlist.

37. The computer-readable medium of claim 31, wherein the presence information comprises at least one component comprised from a group consisting of:

an audio component, an image component, and a text component.

38. The computer-readable medium of claim 37, wherein the audio component comprises an announcement track.

39. The computer-readable medium of claim 38, wherein the announcement track comprises certain characteristics based on tempo, genre, artist, or album.

40. The computer-readable medium of claim 31, wherein the presence information comprises the presence information of a plurality of recommenders of the media item.

41. The computer-readable medium of claim 31, wherein the media item recommendation message further comprises a media item annotation, wherein the media item annotation is associated with the media item identifier.

42. The computer-readable medium of claim 41, wherein the media item annotation comprises metadata.

43. The computer-readable medium of claim 42, wherein the metadata comprises a uniform resource locator.

44. The computer-readable medium of claim 41, wherein the media item annotation is selected from a media item playlist.

45. The computer-readable medium of claim 41, wherein the media item annotation comprises at least one component comprised from a group consisting of:

an audio component, an image component, and a text component.
