Abstract

The claimed subject matter provides a system and/or method that detect watermarks incorporated within analog and/or digital signals associated with multimedia presentations. The disclosed system can include a component that receives analog and/or digital signals, ascertains the existence of a watermark associated with the received signals, and extracts metadata encapsulated within the watermark, wherein the metadata can both include information regarding the broadcast multimedia presentations as well as information unrelated to the broadcast multimedia. Extracted metadata or more particularly, attributes contained within the metadata can be utilized to establish online social networks based at least on the associated attributes.

Claims

1. A machine implemented system that detects watermarks, comprising:

a component that receives from an interface analog or digital signals associated with a multimedia presentation, the component detects a watermark embedded within the analog or digital signals, extracts metadata encapsulated within the watermark, and utilizes at least one attribute included within the metadata to establish an online social network presence.

2. The system of claim 1, the multimedia presentation relates to a film genre or a music genre.

3. The system of claim 1, the attribute related to the online social network presence includes a Universal Resource Locator (URL).

4. The system of claim 3, the component displays the Universal Resource Locator (URL) on a visual display associated with the component.

5. The system of claim 1, the component utilizes the metadata to derive or locate attributes that elicit a commonality of interest with members of the online social network presence.

6. The system of claim 5, the commonality of interest relates to a multimedia presentation that members of the online social network presence have previously perceived.

7. The system of claim 5, the commonality of interest relates to a multimedia presentation that members of the online social network presence simultaneously perceive.

8. The system of claim 1, the component further associated with a playback component, the playback component simultaneously and in real-time plays the multimedia presentation, generates metadata associated with the multimedia presentation, and embeds the metadata within a watermark that is associated with the multimedia presentation.

9. The system of claim 8, the watermark associated with the multimedia presentation transmitted over a network topology in conjunction with the multimedia presentation.

10. The system of claim 1, the metadata encapsulated within the watermark includes data related to an advertisement.

11. The system of claim 1, the metadata includes attributes related to the multimedia presentation.

12. The system of claim 1, the multimedia presentation includes a plurality of multimedia fragments, each multimedia fragment associated with unique differentia.

13. The system of claim 12, the unique differentia utilized by the component to fractionate the online social network presence.

14. The system of claim 1, the online social network presence automatically terminates when the multimedia presentation concludes playing on a playback device, or when a last user exits the online social network presence.

15. The system of claim 1, the component establishes the online social network presence by transmitting credential information related to the component and a user to a social networking website.

16. The system of claim 1, the component detects a hash included with the analog or digital signals and extracts the at least one attribute to activate the online social network presence, where the online social network presence is one of an online chat room, an online fan club, or a dating website.

17. The system of claim 1, the watermark embedded within the analog or digital signals as a perturbation in a time or frequency domain.

18. A method implemented on a machine that detects watermarks associated with a multimedia presentation, comprising:

receiving analog or digital signals augmented with humanly imperceptible perturbations in a time or frequency domain, the humanly imperceptible perturbations indicative of watermarks;

extracting metadata from the watermarks; and

utilizing at least one attribute included with the metadata to automatically initiate an online presence in a social computing space.

19. The method of claim 18, the watermarks impervious to transformation between digital or analog signals.

20. A system that detects watermark information incorporated within broadcast analog or digital signals, comprising:

means for obtaining the broadcast analog or digital signals, the analog and digital signals associated with one or more multimedia presentation;

means for extracting the watermark information from the broadcast analog or digital signals;

means for locating metadata embedded within the watermark information;

means for utilizing an attribute associated with the metadata and establishing an semi-permanent on-line social network based at least in part on the attribute; and

means for activating or deactivating the means for utilizing based on a level of interest from a user related to the semi-permanent on-line social network.
