Abstract

A method and apparatus for providing a management interface to an application server to allow user access to managed properties of a deployment. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving metadata of a deployment describing managed properties, which are generated according to a user definition. The method further includes creating a management interface for the deployment to provide user access to the managed properties.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving metadata of a deployment describing managed properties generated according to a user definition; and

creating a management interface for the deployment to provide user access to the managed properties.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

implementing the management interface as an aspect.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a user request to update the managed properties; and

updating the managed properties in response to the user request.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a query for the managed properties; and

returning the managed properties in response to the query.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein management interface includes Plain Old Java Objects (POJOs).

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

incorporating a customized management interface into the deployment.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

defining the managed properties to be a subset of deployable properties of the deployment.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

in response to a change to the managed properties, defining a transition from existing managed properties to new managed properties.

9. A system comprising:

a repository to store data pertaining to a deployment described by deployable properties;

a profile service, coupled to the repository, to provide a management interface for the deployment to facilitate user access to managed properties corresponding to a subset of the deployable properties.

10. The system of claim 9 wherein the managed interface includes Plain Old Java Objects (POJOs).

11. The system of claim 9 wherein the managed interface includes a customized plug-in.

12. An article of manufacture, comprising:

a machine-accessible storage medium including data that, when accessed by a machine, cause the machine to perform a method comprising;

receiving metadata of a deployment describing managed properties generated according to a user definition; and

creating a management interface for the deployment to provide access to the managed properties.

13. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein the method further comprises:

implementing the management interface as an aspect.

14. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein the method further comprises:

receiving a request to update the managed properties; and

updating the managed properties in response to the request.

15. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein the method further comprises:

receiving a query for the managed properties; and

returning the managed properties in response to the query.

16. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein management interface includes Plain Old Java Objects (POJOs).

17. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein the method further comprises:

incorporating a customized management interface into the deployment.

18. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein the method further comprises:

defining the managed properties to be a subset of deployable properties of the deployment.

19. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein the method further comprises:

in response to a change to the managed properties, defining a transition from existing managed properties to new managed properties.

20. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein the managed interface includes a customized plug-in.
