Abstract

A resuscitation system for the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation of asthma patients, and for teaching the cardiopulmonary resuscitation of asthma patients to simulate the cardiovascular and gas exchange effects of dynamic hyperinflation and to train healthcare workers to detect the adverse cardiovascular effects of dynamic hyperinflation.

Claims

1. A simulator for training in the emergency administration of resuscitation, wherein the simulator is configured to simulate the cardiovascular effects of dynamic hyperinflation.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the simulator is a manikin.

3. The system of claim 1 further including a simulated pulse generator.

4. The system of claim 1 further including a simulated blood pressure generator.

5. The system of claim 1 further including at least one sensor and at least one processor.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the simulator produces a simulator output and further including at least one of a gas pressure and flow sensor generating a sensor output the simulator output being progressively responsive to sensor output.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the processor is programmed to reduce the simulated pulse or blood pressure in response to the output of the pressure or flow sensor.

8. A method for training healthcare workers in the emergency administration of resuscitation comprising the step of;

bagging a simulator configured to simulate the cardiovascular effects of dynamic hyperinflation.

9. The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of intubating the simulator

10. The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of monitoring the exhaled flow of gas from the simulator

11. The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of listening to the exhaled flow of gas from the simulator

12. The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of disposing a resuscitation bag having at least one sensor indicative of the exhaled flow of gas from the simulator.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the simulator further comprises a pulse generator generating an output responsive to dynamic hyperinflation, the method comprising the step of monitoring the output during the step of bagging the simulator.

14. A simulator for training in the emergency administration of resuscitation and patient transport, comprising a pulse generator the generator being configured to generate an output responsive to dynamic hyperinflation.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the simulator further comprises a pressure or flow sensor.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the simulator is digital

17. The system of claim 14, wherein the simulator is a manikin

18. The system of claim 14 wherein the simulator further including a simulated pulse generator.

19. The system of claim 15 wherein the simulator further including a processor and wherein the processor is programmed to reduce the simulated pulse or blood pressure in response to the output of the pressure or flow sensor.

20. The system of claim 14 further including a resuscitation bag having at least one sensor indicative of the exhaled flow of gas from the simulator.

21. The system of claim 20 wherein the sensor is elastomeric

22. The system of claim 20 wherein the sensor produces a visual output

23. The system of claim 20 wherein the sensor produces an auditory output.

24. The system of claim 20 further including a port for sensing the auditory output of the sensor.

25. A simulator for training in the emergency administration of resuscitation, the simulator having a pressure or flow sensor generating a sensor output and further configured to generate an output of carbon dioxide responsive to dynamic hyperinflation.

26. The simulator of claim 25 wherein the output of carbon dioxide is simulated.

27. The simulator of claim 25 wherein the output of carbon dioxide is electronically simulated.

28. The simulator of claim 25 wherein the output of carbon dioxide is the end tidal carbon dioxide.

29. The simulator of claim 25 wherein the output of carbon dioxide is the end tidal carbon dioxide and the end tidal carbon dioxide falls in response to increases in the sensor output of pressure or flow.

30. The simulator of claim 25 further comprising a pulse generator the generator being configured to generate an output responsive to dynamic hyperinflation.
