Abstract

A system for targeting communications devices with content from service providers, third party content providers, sponsors, promotional partners and advertisers. The invention matches the content with communications device users using customer profiles or device usage profiles and transmits the content to communications devices over a wireless network, via the internet, or other means. The communications devices store the content in an internal repository. The content is later displayed as a result of triggers by designated users'"'"' actions. The content is displayed in the unused space of communications devices, between a designated user action and the actuation of an intended event or function. Media or content displayed when a triggering action occurs may be cached and stored in the repository or may be delivered in real time.

Claims

1. A content scheduler for scheduling delivery of content on a mobile communication device comprising:

a subject view module for identifying business attributes used to characterize and generate scheduling of content; and

a tool view module for identifying activities used to generate calculations used to monitor and track system parameters with data provided from said subject view module.

2. The content scheduler of claim 1, wherein said subject view module comprises a purpose function module, a priority/values function module and a purpose-related function module used to characterize and generate the scheduling of content.

3. The content scheduler of claim 2, wherein the purpose function module comprises the ability to provide a campaign need, match users with the campaign need and timely display of the content to a user.

4. The content scheduler of claim 2, wherein the priority/values function module comprises the ability to make predictions concerning the number of campaigns that need to be run, the number of times users tend to do certain functions, the number of impressions that need to be delivered to the mobile communications device, and other parameters that may be measured to determine if a campaign has met its goals.

5. The content scheduler of claim 4, wherein the certain functions comprise making phone calls, turning on the mobile communications device, and “

6. The content scheduler of claim 3, wherein the ability to match users with the campaign need comprises the ability to match the correct content to users to insure users receive content related to their interests, gender and payment status.

The content scheduler of claim 3, wherein the ability to provide the timely display comprises the ability to display content at times appropriate for a message of the content, ensure content is available to be shown, ensure that out of range mobile communications devices have content to be displayed, and ensure that content is timely deleted as desired.

8. The content scheduler of claim 2, wherein the priority/values function module comprises the ability to establish campaign requirements and needs of a user.

The content scheduler of claim 8, wherein the ability to establish campaign requirements comprises a pay-per-impression model that targets a specific demographic, a pay-per-action model that targets a specific demographic and measures when an action is taken, and a hybrid model where the number of impressions and actions formulated together drive the success metrics of the campaign model.

10. The content scheduler of claim 8, wherein the ability to establish needs of a user comprises the ability to take into account demographics, including age, gender, marital status, income, religion, a user'"'"'s likes and a user'"'"'s dislikes.

11. The content scheduler of claim 8, wherein the ability to establish needs of a user comprises the ability to account for a user'"'"'s willingness to view content and the ability to exclude content.

12. The content scheduler of claim 2, wherein the purpose-related function module comprises content order entry module, on/off line scheduling module and a characteristic scheduling module.

13. The content scheduler of claim 12, wherein the content order entry module comprises the ability to calculate the proper mix of displayed content that is dependent upon projected inventory, schedule inventory and calculate the intersection of material that meets the campaign schedule.

The content scheduler of claim 12, wherein the off/on-line scheduling module comprises the ability to operate in an online mode, wherein a schedule request may be submitted during campaign order entry and off/on-line scheduling module calculates the number of impressions that may be delivered and responds immediately with a response, and an offline mode, wherein the off/on-line scheduling module includes the ability to receive a schedule request and generate a schedule for each user group for a related campaign.

The content scheduler of claim 12, wherein the characteristic scheduling module comprises the ability to determine a mobile communication device'"'"'s ability to show the content properly, support campaigns based on network and device performance characteristics, support day-part needs based on loading, meet campaign and user constraints, and reshuffle the scheduling of impressions in order to meet showings during a specific time-frame.

16. The content scheduler of claim 12, wherein the characteristic scheduling module comprises the ability to generate a schedule for a user on demand based on the available set of content and the user'"'"'s interest.

17. The content scheduler of claim 1, wherein the tool view module comprises a physical activity function module and a device function module

The content scheduler of claim 17, wherein the physical activity function module comprises a scaling function module including the ability to process large numbers of campaigns, an estimation function module including the ability to view historical data and track trends and predict future outcomes, and a projection function module including the ability to account for market trends, economic considerations, and other variables that affect the number of users, campaigns and revenue.

The content scheduler of claim 1, wherein the device function module comprises a metric engine module which uses various mathematical formulas and algorithms to calculate, predict and estimate event activity and estimate logical groupings of behaviorally similar users for hypothetical and actual scheduling of content, an algorithm engine module which uses various mathematical formulas and algorithms to calculate, predict and estimate performance of hypothetical and actual scheduling of content, and a data warehouse module which records information from a user'"'"'s mobile communications device, campaign characteristics, and other system performance data.

20. A content delivery scheduling system for use with a mobile communication device comprising:

a subject view module for identifying business attributes used to characterize and generate scheduling of content including the ability to provide a campaign need, match users with the campaign need, timely display the content to a user, make predictions concerning the number of campaigns that need to be run, the number of times users tend to do certain functions, the number of impressions that need to be delivered to the mobile communications device, establish campaign requirements and needs of a user, calculate the proper mix of displayed content that is dependent upon projected inventory, schedule inventory and calculate the intersection of material that meets the campaign schedule, determine a mobile communication device'"'"'s ability to show the content properly, support day-part needs based on loading, meet campaign and user constraints, reshuffle the scheduling of impressions in order to meet showings during a specific time-frame; and

a tool view module for identifying activities used to generate calculations used to monitor and track system parameters with data provided from said subject view module including the ability to process large numbers of campaigns, view historical data and track trends and predict future outcomes, and account for market trends, economic considerations, and other variables that affect the number of users, campaigns and revenue.
