Abstract

Allocating radio resources in a mobile communication system, comprises transmitting first information to a network, wherein the first information is utilized by the network to allocate radio resources to a mobile terminal for allowing communication between the mobile terminal and the network, and receiving second information from the network, wherein the second information is related to an allocation of radio resources for the mobile terminal.

Claims

1. A method for allocating radio resources in a mobile communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting first information to a network, wherein the first information is utilized by the network to allocate radio resources to a mobile terminal for allowing communication between the mobile terminal and the network; and

receiving second information from the network, wherein the second information is related to an allocation of radio resources for the mobile terminal.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first information is transmitted upon expiration of a timer.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first information comprises priority information of a channel having data.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the first information comprises mobile terminal power information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the first information comprises information related to an average number of retransmissions under a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) scheme.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first information comprises information related to transmitting a full header packet under a header compression scheme.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the first information comprises information related to a transition between an idle period and an active period.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the idle period is a silent period and the active period is a talk spurt during a voice call operation.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the mobile terminal is periodically allocated radio resources for transmitting the first information using the allocated radio resources.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the first information is transmitted upon receiving a request to transmit the first information from the network.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the second information is received along with a NACK signal from the network, wherein the network transmits the NACK signal upon incorrectly receiving data from the mobile terminal.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the second information comprises an indicator for indicating to the mobile terminal the existence of paging information.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the second information is received during a first frame of a set of time frames, wherein the first frame includes identities of all mobile terminals that are scheduled for data communication within the set of time frames.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein a mobile terminal is in an inactive state during the other time frames of the set of time frames if the identity of the mobile terminal is not included in the first frame.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the second information comprises information related to when the mobile terminal can transmit the first information.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the second information comprises information related to when the network can allocate the radio resources.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein the first information is transmitted on a portion of a random access channel the mobile terminal is allowed to use.

18. A method for allocating radio resources in a mobile communication system, the method comprising:

receiving first information from a mobile terminal, wherein the first information is utilized by a network to allocate radio resources to the mobile terminal for allowing communication between the mobile terminal and the network; and

transmitting second information to the mobile terminal, wherein the second information is related to an allocation of radio resources for the mobile terminal.
