Abstract

An embodiment relates generally to a method of searching. The method includes providing for a knowledgebase item and associating a review for the knowledgebase item. The method also includes associating a rating for the knowledgebase item and developing a ranking associated with the knowledgebase item based on at least one the review and the rating. The method further includes displaying the knowledgebase item based on the ranking in subsequent searches that include the knowledgebase item.

Claims

1. A method of searching, comprising:

providing for a knowledgebase item;

associating a review for the knowledgebase item;

associating a rating for the knowledgebase item;

developing a ranking associated with the knowledgebase item based on at least one the review and the rating; and

displaying the knowledgebase item based on the ranking in subsequent searches that include the knowledgebase item.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising associating a secondary rating based on one of the associated review and rating of the knowledgebase item.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the ranking is further based on the secondary rating.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the secondary rating is associated with a utility factor of the associated review and rating of the knowledgebase item.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising of storing the secondary rating.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising of storing the review associated with the knowledgebase item and the rating associated with the knowledgebase item.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the storage of the review associated with the knowledgebase item and the rating associated with the knowledgebase item is stored in a knowledgebase database.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the storage of the review associated with the knowledgebase item and the rating associated with the knowledgebase item is a link to the review and the rating stored with the metadata of the knowledgebase item.

9. A system for searching, the system comprising:

a knowledgebase database configured to store knowledgebase items;

a search module configured to interface with the knowledgebase database configured to search and retrieve knowledgebase items based on terms; and

a rating module configured to provide a mechanism for a reviewer to associate a rating and a review with the knowledgebase items, wherein the rating module is configured to associate a received review and a rating for a selected knowledgebase item, to develop a ranking for the selected knowledgebase item, and to display the knowledgebase item based on the ranking in subsequent searches by the search module that include the knowledgebase item.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the rating module is further configured to associate a secondary rating based on one of the associated review and rating of the knowledgebase item.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the ranking is further based on the secondary rating.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the secondary rating is associated with a utility factor of the associated review and rating of the knowledgebase item.

13. The system of claim 12, further comprising of storing the secondary rating.

14. The system of claim 9, wherein the rating module is further configured to store the review associated with the knowledgebase item and the rating associated with the knowledgebase item.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the rating module is configured to store the review associated with the knowledgebase item and the rating associated with the knowledgebase item in the knowledgebase database.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the rating module is configured to store a link to the review associated with the knowledgebase item and the rating associated with the knowledgebase item with the metadata of the knowledgebase item.

17. An apparatus for assisting a search, the apparatus comprising:

a database configured to store information items;

a manager module configured to provide a mechanism to associate a rating and a review with the knowledgebase items in the database;

a database interface coupled with the manager module and the database configured to translate queries from the manager module to search the database and retrieve knowledgebase items from the database, wherein the manager module is configured to associate a received review and a rating for a selected knowledgebase item, to develop a ranking for the selected knowledgebase item, and to display the knowledgebase item based on the ranking in subsequent searches by the search module that include the knowledgebase item.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the manager module is further configured to associate a secondary rating based on one of the associated review and rating of the knowledgebase item.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the ranking is further based on the secondary rating.

20. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the secondary rating is associated with a utility factor of the associated review and rating of the knowledgebase item.

21. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising of storing the secondary rating.

22. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the manager module is further configured to store the review associated with the knowledgebase item and the rating associated with the knowledgebase item.

23. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the manager module is configured to store the review associated with the knowledgebase item and the rating associated with the knowledgebase item in the knowledgebase database.

24. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the manager module is configured to store a link to the review associated with the knowledgebase item and the rating associated with the knowledgebase item with the metadata of the knowledgebase item.
