Abstract

Systems and methods for performing a consumer advertising transaction at a retail device are disclosed. According to one system and method, an identifier associated with the retail device is provided to a personal communication device. An application-specific user interface specific to the retail device is associated based on the identifier. A selection is received for the consumer advertising transaction made by a consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface executing on the personal communication device. The consumer advertising transaction is performed based on the received selection for the consumer advertising transaction made by the consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface.

Claims

1. A method for performing a consumer advertising transaction at a retail device, comprising the steps of:

providing an identifier associated with the retail device to a personal communication device;

associating an application-specific user interface specific to the retail device based on the identifier;

receiving a selection for the consumer advertising transaction made by a consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface executing on the personal communication device; and

performing the consumer advertising transaction based on the received selection for the consumer advertising transaction made by the consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising defining consumer preferences for the consumer advertising transaction, and wherein receiving the selection for the consumer advertising transaction further comprises receiving the selection based upon the consumer preferences.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising providing content for the consumer advertising transaction to the consumer on the personal communication device based upon the defined consumer preferences.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing content for the consumer advertising transaction based upon the retail device and the consumer.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising defining marketing preferences for the consumer advertising transaction, and wherein performing the consumer advertising transaction further comprises providing the consumer advertising transaction based upon the marketing preferences.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising providing options for the consumer advertising transaction to the consumer on the personal communication device based upon the defined marketing preferences.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the marketing preferences further comprise preferences based on at least one of age and income of the consumer.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing a discount to the consumer in association with the consumer advertising transaction.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the discount is associated with an offer to purchase an item other than the selection for the consumer advertising transaction made by the consumer.

10. The method of claim 8, further comprising providing a uniform resource locator (URL) to the consumer associated with the discount.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising providing an image of an item associated with the discount when the consumer selects the URL via the application-specific user interface on the personal communication device.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

creating a uniform resource locator (URL) associated with at least one of a free item and a free service offered to the consumer in association with the consumer advertising transaction; and

displaying the URL using the application-specific user interface.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein creating the URL further comprises utilizing information associated with the consumer to create the URL specifically for the consumer.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising destroying the URL after the at least one of the free item and the free service is retrieved by the consumer.

15. A system for performing a consumer advertising transaction, comprising:

a retail device adapted to provide an identifier associated with the retail device to a personal communication device;

a server adapted to;

associate an application-specific user interface specific to the retail device based on the identifier;

receive a selection for the consumer advertising transaction made by a consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface executing on the personal communication device; and

perform the consumer advertising transaction based on the received selection for the consumer advertising transaction made by the consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the server is further adapted to define consumer preferences for the consumer advertising transaction and to receive the selection for the consumer advertising transaction based upon the consumer preferences.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the server is further adapted to provide content for the consumer advertising transaction to the consumer on the personal communication device based upon the defined consumer preferences.

18. The system of claim 15, wherein the server is further adapted to provide content for the consumer advertising transaction based upon the retail device and the consumer.

19. The system of claim 15, wherein the server is further adapted to define marketing preferences for the consumer advertising transaction and to provide the consumer advertising transaction based upon the marketing preferences.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the server is further adapted to provide options for the consumer advertising transaction to the consumer on the personal communication device based upon the defined marketing preferences.

21. The system of claim 19, wherein the server is further adapted to define the marketing preferences based on at least one of age and income of the consumer.

22. The system of claim 15, wherein the server is further adapted to provide a discount to the consumer in association with the consumer advertising transaction.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the server is further adapted to provide the discount in association with an offer to purchase an item other than the selection for the consumer advertising transaction made by the consumer.

24. The system of claim 22, wherein the server is further adapted to provide a uniform resource locator (URL) to the consumer associated with the discount.

25. The system of claim 24, wherein the server is further adapted to provide an image of an item associated with the discount when the consumer selects the URL via the application-specific user interface on the personal communication device.

26. The system of claim 15, wherein the server is further adapted to:

create a uniform resource locator (URL) associated with at least one of a free item and a free service offered to the consumer in association with the consumer advertising transaction; and

provide the URL for display on a display of the personal communication device.

27. The system of claim 26, wherein the server is further adapted to utilize information associated with the consumer to create the URL specifically for the consumer.

28. The system of claim 27, wherein the server is further adapted to destroy the URL after the at least one of the free item and the free service is retrieved by the consumer.

29. The system of claim 15, wherein the server is adapted to be at least a portion of the retail device.

30. A method for performing a consumer loyalty transaction at a retail device, comprising the steps of:

providing an identifier associated with the retail device to a personal communication device;

associating an application-specific user interface specific to the retail device based on the identifier;

receiving a selection for the consumer loyalty transaction made by a consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface executing on the personal communication device; and

performing the consumer loyalty transaction based on the received selection for the consumer loyalty transaction made by the consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface.

31. The method of claim 30, further comprising defining consumer preferences for the consumer loyalty transaction, and wherein receiving the selection for the consumer loyalty transaction further comprises receiving the selection based upon the consumer preferences.

32. The method of claim 31, further comprising providing content for the consumer loyalty transaction to the consumer on the personal communication device based upon the defined consumer preferences.

33. The method of claim 30, further comprising providing content for the consumer loyalty transaction based upon the retail device and the consumer.

34. The method of claim 30, further comprising defining marketing preferences for the consumer loyalty transaction, and wherein performing the consumer loyalty transaction further comprises providing the consumer loyalty transaction based upon the marketing preferences.

35. The method of claim 34, further comprising providing options for the consumer loyalty transaction to the consumer on the personal communication device based upon the defined marketing preferences.

36. The method of claim 34, wherein the marketing preferences further comprise preferences based on at least one of age and income of the consumer.

37. The method of claim 30, further comprising providing a discount to the consumer in association with the consumer loyalty transaction.

38. The method of claim 37, wherein the discount is associated with an offer to purchase an item other than the selection for the consumer loyalty transaction made by the consumer.

39. The method of claim 37, further comprising providing a uniform resource locator (URL) to the consumer associated with the discount.

40. The method of claim 39, further comprising providing an image of an item associated with the discount when the consumer selects the URL via the application-specific user interface on the personal communication device.

41. The method of claim 30, further comprising:

creating a uniform resource locator (URL) associated with at least one of a free item and a free service offered to the consumer in association with the consumer loyalty transaction; and

displaying the URL using the application-specific user interface executing on the personal communication device.

42. The method of claim 41, wherein creating the URL further comprises utilizing information associated with the consumer to create the URL specifically for the consumer.

43. The method of claim 42, further comprising destroying the URL after the free item is retrieved by the customer.

44. A system for performing a consumer loyalty transaction, comprising:

a retail device adapted to provide an identifier associated with the retail device to a personal communication device;

a server adapted to;

associate an application-specific user interface specific to the retail device based on the identifier;

receive a selection for the consumer loyalty transaction made by a consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface executing on the personal communication device; and

perform the consumer loyalty transaction based on the received selection for the consumer loyalty transaction made by the consumer interacting with the application-specific user interface.

45. The system of claim 44, wherein the server is further adapted to define consumer preferences for the consumer loyalty transaction and to receive the selection based upon the consumer preferences.

46. The system of claim 45, wherein the server is further adapted to provide content for the consumer loyalty transaction to the consumer on the personal communication device based upon the defined consumer preferences.

47. The system of claim 44, wherein the server is further adapted to define marketing preferences for the consumer loyalty transaction and to provide the consumer loyalty transaction based upon the marketing preferences.

48. The system of claim 47, wherein the server is further adapted to provide options for the consumer loyalty transaction to the consumer on the personal communication device based upon the defined marketing preferences.

49. The system of claim 44, wherein the server is further adapted to:

create a uniform resource locator (URL) associated with at least one of a free item and a free service offered to the consumer in association with the consumer loyalty transaction; and

provide the URL for display on a display of the personal communication device.

50. The system of claim 44, wherein the server is adapted to be at least a portion of the retail device.

51. A method for providing an electronic receipt of order fulfillment for an order previously made at a retail device to a consumer interacting with a personal communication device, comprising the steps of:

sending the electronic receipt to the personal communication device in response to the order, wherein the order was previously made by the consumer interacting with an application-specific user interface executing on the personal communication device, wherein the application-specific user interface was provided on the personal communication device based on an identifier associated with the retail device received from the personal communication device.

52. The method of claim 51, further comprising providing alternative content in association with the electronic receipt.

53. The method of claim 52, wherein providing the alternative content further comprises providing at least one of advertising content, promotional content, loyalty program content, and contest content via the application-specific user interface.

54. The method of claim 53, further comprising allowing the consumer to select the alternative content to perform an alternative content transaction.

55. The method of claim 51, wherein the electronic receipt further comprises detailed transaction information associated with the order.

56. The method of claim 51, further comprising providing a graphical code encoded with receipt information for the order as at least a portion of the electronic receipt.

57. The method of claim 56, wherein the graphical code further comprises a two-dimensional coded array.

58. A system for providing an electronic receipt of order fulfillment for an order previously made at a retail device to a consumer interacting with a personal communication device, comprising:

a server adapted to send the electronic receipt to the personal communication device in response to the order, wherein the order was previously made by the consumer interacting with an application-specific user interface executing on the personal communication device, wherein the application-specific user interface was provided on the personal communication device based on an identifier associated with the retail device received from the personal communication device.

59. The system of claim 58, wherein the server is further adapted to provide alternative content in association with the electronic receipt.

60. The system of claim 58, wherein the server is further adapted to format the electronic receipt with detailed transaction information associated with the order.

61. The system of claim 58, wherein the server is further adapted to provide a graphical code encoded with receipt information for the order as at least a portion of the electronic receipt.

62. The system of claim 58, wherein the server is adapted to be at least a portion of the retail device.
