Abstract

One or more coordinating devices may be utilized to control high speed data transmission among a plurality of wireless devices utilizing 60 GHz for high speed data transmission. Control messages may be sent and/or received between each of the plurality of wireless devices and the one or more coordinating devices utilizing low rate control connections via available secondary physical layers. The secondary physical layers may comprise Bluetooth, 802.11, and/or UWB physical layers. The controlling may comprise time coordination, frequency coordination, and/or spatial coordination that may enable the wireless devices to align and/or position directional antenna that may be utilized to perform the 60 GHz high speed data transmission. The wireless devices may utilize the low rate control connections to communicate reporting messages to the one or more coordinating devices. The reporting information may enable the one or more coordinating devices to manage available resources in the plurality of wireless devices.

Claims

1. A method for wireless communication, the method comprising:

controlling high speed data communication for a plurality of wireless devices that utilize 60 GHz physical layers via one or more coordinating devices, wherein an available secondary physical layer between each of said plurality of wireless devices and said one or more coordinating devices is utilized to enable said controlling.

2. The method of claim 1, comprising performing said high speed data communication via one or more directional antennas at said plurality of wireless devices.

3. The method of claim 1, comprising performing said controlling via one or more omni-directional antennas at said plurality of wireless devices and/or said one or more coordinating devices.

4. The method of claim 1, comprising managing available resources utilized during said high speed data communication.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein said managing of available resources comprises allocation, deallocation, and/or reallocation of said available resources.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein said available resources comprise one or more of available channels within the 60 GHz interface during said high speed data communication.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein said available resources comprise one or more of available time slots within the 60 GHz interface during said high speed data transmission.

8. The method of claim 2, comprising coordinating positioning said directional antennas of each pair of said plurality of wireless devices to enable said high speed data communication and/or to prevent interference others of said plurality of wireless devices.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein said available secondary physical layer comprises a Bluetooth (IEEE 802.15), a WLAN (IEEE 802.11), or an Ultra Wideband (UWB) physical layer.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein said one or more coordinating devices comprise an access point, a set-top box, a gaming console, and/or a residential gateway device.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein said high speed data comprises streaming and/or video data.

12. The method according to claim 1, comprising communicating via said available secondary physical layer, information between one or more of said plurality of wireless devices and one or more coordinating devices that enable said controlling of said high speed data communication.

13. The method according to claim 1, wherein said communicated information comprises one or more of a bit error rate (BER), a packet error rate (PER), a signal to noise ratio (SNR), and a received signal strength indication (RSSI).

25. The method according to claim 1, comprising communicating via said available secondary physical layer, information between one or more of said plurality of wireless devices and one or more coordinating devices that enable said controlling of said high speed data communication.

26. The method according to claim 1, wherein said communicated information comprises one or more of a bit error rate (BER), a packet error rate (PER), a signal to noise ratio (SNR), and a received signal strength indication (RSSI).

14. A system for wireless communication, the system comprising:

at least one processor within one or more coordinating devices that controls high speed data communication for a plurality of wireless devices that utilize 60 GHz physical layers, wherein an available secondary physical layer between each of said plurality of wireless devices and said one or more coordinating devices is utilized to enable said controlling.

15. The system of claim 14, comprising performing said high speed data communication via one or more directional antennas at said plurality of wireless devices.

16. The system of claim 14, comprising performing said controlling via one or more omni-directional antennas at said plurality of wireless devices and/or said one or more coordinating devices.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein said least one processor within said one or more coordinating devices enable managing available resources utilized during said high speed data communication.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein said managing of available resources comprises allocation, deallocation, and/or reallocation of said available resources.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein said available resources comprise one or more of available channels within the 60 GHz interface during said high speed data communication.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein said available resources comprise one or more of available time slots within the 60 GHz interface during said high speed data transmission.

21. The system of claim 15, comprising coordinating positioning said directional antennas of each pair of said plurality of wireless devices to enable said high speed data communication and/or to prevent interference others of said plurality of wireless devices.

22. The system of claim 14, wherein said available secondary physical layer comprises a Bluetooth (IEEE 802.15), a WLAN (IEEE 802.11), or an Ultra Wideband (UWB) physical layer.

23. The system of claim 14, wherein said one or more coordinating devices comprise an access point, a set-top box, a gaming console, and/or a residential gateway device.

24. The system of claim 14, wherein said high speed data comprises streaming and/or video data.
