Abstract

A method, system, and computer program product for tokenized domain name resolution are provided. The method includes receiving a tokenized domain name, where the tokenized domain name includes a domain name with one or more embedded tokens. The method also includes parsing the tokenized domain name to identify the one or more embedded tokens. The method further includes extracting the one or more embedded tokens from the tokenized domain name, and performing at least one predefined process in response to extracting the one or more embedded tokens. The method may also forward control to the domain name.

Claims

1. A method for tokenized domain name resolution comprising:

receiving a tokenized domain name, the tokenized domain name including a domain name with one or more embedded tokens;

parsing the tokenized domain name to identify the one or more embedded tokens;

extracting the one or more embedded tokens from the tokenized domain name; and

performing at least one predefined process in response to extracting the one or more embedded tokens.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the one or more embedded tokens include one of a prefix and a suffix within a domain name.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the one or more embedded tokens include one of a character string “

pre” and

“

pre-”

.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one predefined process includes making charitable donation.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising forwarding control to the domain name.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein forwarding control to the domain name is performed after extracting the one or more embedded tokens from the tokenized domain name.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the tokenized domain name is an irresolvable domain name prior to extracting the one or more embedded tokens.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving one or more search terms; and

forwarding the one or more search terms to the domain name.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein at least one of the one or more search terms is encrypted.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one predefined process includes domain name switching from the tokenized domain name to a variation of the domain name excluding the one or more embedded tokens.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the domain name switching changes a top-level domain name to a different top-level domain name.

12. A system for tokenized domain name resolution, comprising:

a host system in communication with a network, the host system including a domain name resolver, the domain name resolver performing;

receiving a tokenized domain name, the tokenized domain name including a domain name with one or more embedded tokens;

parsing the tokenized domain name to identify the one or more embedded tokens;

extracting the one or more embedded tokens from the tokenized domain name; and

performing at least one predefined process in response to extracting the one or more embedded tokens.

13. The system of claim 12 wherein the one or more embedded tokens include one of a prefix and a suffix within a domain name.

14. The system of claim 12 wherein the one or more embedded tokens include one of a character string “

pre” and

“

pre-”

.

15. The system of claim 12 wherein the at least one predefined process includes making charitable donation.

16. The system of claim 12 wherein the domain name resolver further performs:

forwarding control to the domain name over the network.

17. The system of claim 16 wherein forwarding control to the domain name is performed after extracting the one or more embedded tokens from the tokenized domain name.

18. The system of claim 12 wherein the host system employs a controller and resource management system (CARMS) architecture.

19. The system of claim 12 wherein the domain name resolver further performs:

receiving one or more search terms; and

forwarding the one or more search terms to the domain name over the network.

20. The system of claim 19 wherein at least one of the one or more search terms is encrypted.

21. The system of claim 12 wherein the at least one predefined process includes domain name switching from the tokenized domain name to a variation of the domain name excluding the one or more embedded tokens.

22. The system of claim 21 wherein the domain name switching changes a top-level domain name to a different top-level domain name.

23. A computer program product for tokenized domain name resolution, the computer program product comprising:

a storage medium readable by a processing circuit and storing instructions for execution by the processing circuit for implementing a method, the method comprising;

receiving a tokenized domain name, the tokenized domain name including a domain name with one or more embedded tokens;

parsing the tokenized domain name to identify the one or more embedded tokens;

extracting the one or more embedded tokens from the tokenized domain name; and

performing at least one predefined process in response to extracting the one or more embedded tokens.

24. The computer program product of claim 23 further comprising forwarding control to the domain name.

25. The computer program product of claim 23 wherein the at least one predefined process includes domain name switching from the tokenized domain name to a variation of the domain name excluding the one or more embedded tokens.

26. The computer program product of claim 25 wherein the at least one predefined process includes domain name switching from the tokenized domain name to a variation of the domain name excluding the one or more embedded tokens.
