Abstract

A method of providing situational awareness at an incident scene. Sensor data can be received from at least one sensor (104, 106, 108) located at the incident scene and position data can be received for at least one resource (306, 308, 310, 312). Based on the received data, at least one optimal exit route (318) at the incident scene can be calculated. The present invention also relates to a system (118) that provides situational awareness at an incident scene. The system can include a communications adapter (204) that receives sensor data from at least one sensor located at the incident scene and position data for at least one resource located at the incident scene, and a processor (202) that calculates at least one optimal exit route for the resource to exit a location at the incident scene based on the received sensor data and position data.

Claims

1. A method of providing situational awareness at an incident scene, comprising:

receiving sensor data from at least one sensor located at the incident scene;

receiving position data for at least one resource located at the incident scene;

based on the received sensor data and position data, calculating at least a first optimal exit route for the resource to exit a location at the incident scene.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

based on the received sensor data and position data, determining when to require exit of the resource from the location; and

communicating a message to initiate exit of the resource from the location.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

calculating an estimated time for the resource to exit the location;

wherein determining when to require exit of the resource from the location comprises processing the estimated time.

4. The method of claim 3, calculating the estimated time for the resource to exit the location comprises determining a distance of the resource from a safe exit.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving sensor data comprises receiving at least one form of data selected from the group consisting of biometric data pertaining to an emergency responder and environmental data pertaining to the location.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving position data comprises receiving data that indicates a direction of movement.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising presenting the first optimal exit route on a display.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

presenting on the display at least one icon corresponding to an emergency responder; and

presenting on the display at least a first status indicator that is associated with the emergency responder.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

presenting on the display at least a second status indicator that presents environmental data received from at least one environmental sensor.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising calculating at least a second exit route for the resource to exit the location at the incident scene.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

responsive to the first optimal exit route becoming unavailable or no longer meeting exit criteria, presenting the second exit route on the display.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

estimating an amount of time that the first optimal exit route may remain available; and

responsive to determining that the resource may remain at the location beyond the time that the first optimal route remains available, selecting the second exit route as an optimal exit route for the resource.

13. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

continually monitoring the received sensor data and position data; and

prioritizing the first optimal exit route and at least the second exit route based on the received sensor data and position data.

14. A system that provides situational awareness at an incident scene, comprising:

a communications adapter that receives sensor data from at least one sensor located at the incident scene and position data for at least one resource located at the incident scene; and

a processor that calculates at least one optimal exit route for the resource to exit a location at the incident scene based on the received sensor data and position data.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein:

based on the received sensor data and position data, the processor determines when to require exit of the resource from the location; and

the communications adapter communicates a message to initiate exit of the resource from the location.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein:

the processor calculates an estimated time for the resource to exit the location; and

the processor determines when to require exit of the resource from the location by further processing the estimated time.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the processor calculates the estimated time for the resource to exit the location by determining a distance of the resource from a safe exit.

18. The system of claim 14, wherein the sensor data comprises at least one form of data selected from the group consisting of biometric data pertaining to an emergency responder and environmental data pertaining to the location.

19. The system of claim 14, wherein the processor generates data to visually present the optimal exit route.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein in the processor further generates data to visually present at least one icon corresponding to an emergency responder, and generates data to visually present at least a first status indicator that is associated with the emergency responder.

21. A program storage device readable by a machine, tangibly embodying a program of instructions executable by the machine to perform method steps for providing situational awareness at an incident scene, said method steps comprising:

receiving sensor data from at least one sensor located at the incident scene;

receiving position data for at least one resource located at the incident scene;

based on the received sensor data and position data, calculating at least one optimal exit route for the resource to exit a location at the incident scene.
