Abstract

The present invention has its object to provide a direct hemoperfusion adsorber packed with an adsorbent made by using a water-insoluble carrier having a relatively readily available particle size distribution, with water-insoluble microparticles having been removed therefrom, without needing any special granulation apparatus or coating apparatus, and method of obtaining a direct hemoperfusion adsorbent having water-insoluble microparticles removed therefrom.

Now, a direct hemoperfusion adsorber has been obtained that is packed with an adsorbent having a number average particle diameter of not smaller than 300 μm but not larger than 600 μm, with the coefficient of variance in particle diameter distribution being not lower than 10% but not higher than 20%, and having water-insoluble microparticles removed therefrom to a safe level, without the loss of the adsorbent, by using a water-insoluble microparticle-removing-mesh such that the ratio of the mesh opening size for removing water-insoluble microparticles to the mesh opening size of the adsorber is not lower than 1.3 but not higher than 1.5.

Claims

1. A direct hemoperfusion adsorber packed with an adsorbent comprising a group of water-insoluble carrier particles having a number average particle diameter of not smaller than 300 μ

m but not larger than 600 μ

m, with the coefficient of variance in particle diameter distribution being not lower than 10% but not higher than 20%,

wherein the average measured value of the number of water-insoluble microparticles not smaller than 10 μ

m as occurring in the adsorber+6SD is not larger than 24,000 per adsorber and the average measured value of the number of water-insoluble microparticles greater than 25 μ

m+6SD is not greater than 4,000 per adsorber.

2. The direct hemoperfusion adsorber according to claim 1 wherein the exclusion limit of molecular weight of the adsorbent for spherical proteins is 2×

10⁴ or higher but not higher than 1×

10⁸.

3. The direct hemoperfusion adsorber according to claim 1 wherein the adsorbent is a cellulose carrier.

4. The direct hemoperfusion adsorber according to claim 1

wherein the adsorbent is a cellulose carrier, the exclusion limit of molecular weight of the adsorbent for spherical proteins is 5×

10⁵ or higher but not higher than 1×

10⁸, and an adsorbent for low-density lipoproteins and fibrinogen is packed therein.

6. The direct hemoperfusion adsorber according to claim 2

wherein the adsorbent is a cellulose carrier.

5. A method of obtaining adsorbents for packing in direct hemoperfusion adsorbers

which comprises removing water-insoluble microparticles from an adsorbent comprising a group of particles having a number average particle diameter of not smaller than 300 μ

m but not greater than 600 μ

m, with the coefficient of variation in particle diameter distribution being not lower than 10% but not higher than 20%, by using a mesh such that the ratio of the mesh opening size for removing water-insoluble microparticles to the mesh opening size of the adsorber is not lower than 1.3 but not higher than 1.5.
