Abstract

Methods and systems of attaching a RFID tag to an object. At least some of the illustrative embodiments are systems comprising a substrate having a pendant portion and an attachment portion, a radio frequency identification (RFID) circuit disposed on the substrate, and a tag antenna coupled to the RFID circuit and disposed on the substrate. The attachment portion of the substrate is configured to couple to an object and the pendant portion is configured to extend away from the object.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a substrate comprising a pendant portion and an attachment portion;

a radio frequency identification (RFID) circuit disposed on the substrate; and

a tag antenna coupled to the RFID circuit and disposed on the substrate;

wherein the attachment portion of the substrate is configured to couple to an object and the pendant portion is configured to extend away from the object.

2. The system according to claim 1 wherein the RFID circuit and tag antenna are disposed on the pendant portion of the substrate.

3. The system according to claim 2 wherein the RFID circuit and tag antenna are manufactured onto the pendant portion of the substrate.

4. The system according to claim 2 wherein the RFID circuit and tag antenna are disposed on an inlay, and wherein the inlay is coupled to the pendant portion of the substrate.

5. The system according to claim 1 wherein the attachment portion further comprises an adhesive, and wherein the attachment portion is configured to wrap around a portion of the object and to one or more selected from the group consisting of:

itself; and

the pendant portion.

6. The system according to claim 5 wherein the adhesive is further configured to adhere to the object.

7. The system according to claim 5 wherein the adhesive is one or more selected from the group consisting of:

on a same side of the substrate as the RFID circuit; and

on an opposite side of the substrate as the RFID circuit.

8. The system according to claim 1 wherein the attachment portion further comprises a fastening system, and wherein the fastening system is configured to couple the attachment portion to the object.

9. The system according to claim 8 wherein the fastening system further comprises:

an aperture; and

a notch;

wherein the notch is configured to couple to the aperture to couple the attachment portion to the object.

10. The system according to claim 8 wherein the fastening system further comprises an adhesive on the attachment portion, and wherein the attachment portion is configured to adhere to the object by way of the adhesive.

11. The system according to claim 10 wherein the adhesive is one or more selected from the group consisting of:

on a same side of the substrate as the RFID circuit; and

on an opposite side of the substrate as the RFID circuit.

12. The system according to claim 8 wherein the fastening system further comprises one or more selected from the group consisting of:

snap;

staple;

rivet;

grommet;

string; and

cable-tie.

13. The system according to claim 1 further comprising a film coupled to the substrate on a same side of the substrate as the RFID circuit, the film at least partially covering the RFID circuit and tag antenna.

14. A method comprising:

affixing a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag to an object by;

orienting a first portion of the RFID tag to extend away from the object; and

coupling a second portion of the RFID tag to the object.

15. The method according to claim 14 where coupling the second portion further comprises:

wrapping a second portion of the RFID tag around at least a portion of the object such that the second portion circumscribes the portion of the object; and

attaching the second portion to the RFID tag.

16. The method according to claim 15 wherein attaching further comprises adhering the second portion to the RFID tag.

17. The method according to claim 16 wherein adhering further comprises adhering the second portion to the RFID tag and the object.

18. The method according to claim 15 wherein attaching further comprises attaching the second portion to one or more selected from the group consisting of:

itself; and

the first portion of the RFID tag.

19. The method according to claim 15 wherein attaching further comprises inserting a tab of the second portion through an aperture in the RFID tag.

20. The method according to claim 15 wherein attaching further comprises one or more selected from the group consisting of:

snapping the attachment portion to itself or the pendant portion;

stapling the attachment portion to itself of the pendant portion;

riveting the attachment portion to itself or the pendant portion;

coupling the attachment portion to itself or the pendant portion by way of a grommet;

tying the attachment portion to itself or the pendant portion by a string; and

tying the attachment portion to itself or the pendant portion by way of a cable-tie.

21. The method according to claim 14 wherein coupling the second portion further comprises adhering at least some of the second portion to the object.

22. The method according to claim 14 wherein affixing further comprises affixing the RFID tag to one or more selected from the group consisting of:

a leg of an animal;

a stem of a plant;

a trunk of a plant;

a leg of a chicken;

a leg of a turkey; and

a handle of a suitcase.

23. The method according to claim 14 further comprising maintaining the first portion free of engagement with the object.

24. A system comprising:

a means for physically supporting electrical components;

a means for a radio frequency identification (RFID) disposed on the means for physically supporting; and

a means for sending electromagnetic signals, the means for sending coupled to the means for RFID.

25. The system according to claim 24 wherein the means for physically supporting further comprises:

a means for attaching to an object; and

a means for suspending the means for RFID and means for sending away from the object.

26. The system according to claim 25 wherein the means for attaching further comprises a means for adhering the means for attaching to one or more selected from the group consisting of:

itself; and

the means for suspending.

27. The system according to claim 25 wherein the means for attaching further comprises a means for adhering the means for attaching to the object.

28. The system according to claim 25 wherein the means for attaching further comprises a means for latching the means for attaching to itself.
