Abstract

A health management system includes a plurality of goal modules (14). Each goal module includes one or more content sessions (16, 18, 71, 72, 73, 74, 120, 122, 126, 140, 148) cooperatively directed toward achieving a health management goal. A user interface (30) is configured for presenting content sessions. At least one feedback path (30, 32, 36, 38) provides at least one input indicative of a user response to a content session presented by the user interface. A content flow engine (42) is configured to control an order of presentation of content sessions based on the at least one input and on content flow rules (44, 46, 48).

Claims

1. A health management system comprising:

a plurality of goal modules (14), each goal module including one or more content sessions (16, 18, 71, 72, 73, 74, 120, 122, 126, 140, 148) cooperatively directed toward achieving a health management goal;

a user interface (30) configured for presenting content sessions;

at least one feedback path (30, 32, 36, 38) providing at least one input indicative of a user response to a content session presented by the user interface; and

a content flow engine (42) configured to control an order of presentation of content sessions based on the at least one input and on content flow rules (44, 46, 48).

2. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein:

the health management goals of the goal modules (14) are selected from a group consisting of;

(i) reducing weight, (ii) stopping smoking, (iii) learning to self-administer a medical intervention, (iv) learning to follow a dietary restriction, (v) learning to follow a dietary requirement, and (vi) performing a physical exercise; and

the content sessions (16, 18) include content selected from a group consisting of;

(i) pre-recorded audio/video content, (ii) textual content, (iii) interactive survey content, and (iv) pre-recorded step-by-step interactive audio/video content.

3. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the at least one feedback path (30, 32, 36, 38) includes:

a survey, quiz, test, or questionnaire including at least one question presented by the user interface (30), the at least one input including a user response via a user interface.

4. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the at least one feedback path (30, 32, 36, 38) includes:

a biometric monitor (32), the at least one input including at least one biometric monitoring datum acquired by the biometric monitor.

5. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein at least one of the goal modules (14) includes content sessions (120, 122, 126, 140, 148) cooperatively directed toward enabling self-administration of a selected medical intervention, the content sessions including:

an interactive step-by-step content session (126) instructing on steps for performing the self-administration of the selected medical intervention.

6. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, further including:

a server (12) storing (i) the plurality of goal modules (14), and (ii) at least one patient profile (22) indicating at least which goal module or goal modules are assigned to a patient profiled by the at least one patient profile.

7. The health management system as set forth in claim 6, wherein the content flow engine (42) is further configured to control, for each patient, an order of presentation of goal modules (14) assigned by the at least one patient profile (22).

The health management system as set forth in claim 7, wherein the order of presentation of a selected two different goal modules (14) assigned by the at least one patient profile (22) is controlled by the content flow engine (42) to be presented as one of (i) an ordered sequence or (ii) concurrently by interleaving presentation of content sessions (16, 18, 71, 72, 73, 74, 120, 122, 126, 140, 148) of the two different goal modules.

9. The health management system as set forth in claim 6, further including:

a computer (60) embodying at least the server (12), the user interface (30), and the content flow engine (42), the at least one patient profile (22) consisting of exactly one patient profile.

The health management system as set forth in claim 6, wherein the at least one patient profile (22) includes a plurality of patient profiles (22₁, 22₂, 22₃), and the server (12) communicates with user interfaces associated with a plurality of different patients, each patient being profiled by a corresponding patient profile.

11. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the content flow rules (44, 46, 48) include a rule calling for repeating a previously presented content session (122) responsive to a selected value or value range of the at least one input.

12. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the content flow rules (44, 46, 48) include skipping at least one content session (72, 74) responsive to a selected value or value range of the at least one input.

13. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the content sessions include a first content session (72) and a second remedial content session (74), the second remedial content session presenting subject matter of the first content session in a remedial form, the content flow rules (44, 46, 48) including a rule calling for presenting the remedial second content session subsequent to the presenting of the first content session responsive to at least one input indicating inadequate comprehension of the presented first content session.

14. The health management system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the user interface includes a television set on which the sessions are displayed, and the at least one feedback path includes a television remote.

15. A health management system comprising:

a server (12) communicating with a plurality of patients, the server storing at least;

a plurality of goal modules (14), each goal module including one or more content sessions (16, 18, 71, 72, 73, 74, 120, 122, 126, 140, 148) cooperatively directed toward achieving a health management goal, and

a plurality of patient profiles (22₁, 22₂, 22₃) corresponding to the plurality of patients, each patient profile indicating at least which goal module or goal modules are assigned to the patient profiled by that patient profile,

the server further including a content flow engine (42) configured to control an order of presentation of content sessions to each patient based on at least one input from the patient and on content flow rules (44, 46, 48).

16. The health management system as set forth in claim 15, further including:

a plurality of biometric monitors (32) in operative communication with the server (12), the at least one input from the patient being provided by at least one of the plurality of biometric monitors which is monitoring the patient.

17. The health management system as set forth in claim 15, wherein the content flow engine (42) is further configured to control, for each patient, an order of presentation of goal modules (14) assigned by the patient profile (22₁, 22₂, 22₃).

18. The health management system as set forth in claim 15, wherein the content flow rules (44, 46, 48) include at least some patient-specific content flow rules (48) stored in the patient profiles (22₁, 22₂, 22₃).

19. The health management system as set forth in claim 15, wherein the content flow rules (44, 46, 48) include content flow rules (44, 46) stored with the goal modules.

20. The health management system as set forth in claim 15, wherein the plurality of patient profiles (22₁, 22₂, 22₃) further assign a medical diagnosis to each patient, the plurality of patient profiles assigning the same goal module (14) to at least two different patients having different diagnoses.

21. The health management system as set forth in claim 15, further including:

a user interface (30) configured to provide the at least one input from the patient and to present content sessions in the order controlled by the content flow engine (42).

22. A patient-accessible apparatus configured to communicate with an associated remote server (12) as set forth in claim 15 to provide health management content to a patient profiled on the remote server, the apparatus comprising:

a user interface (30) accessible by the patent and configured for presenting content sessions pushed to the user interface by the associated remote server (12); and

at least one feedback path (30, 32) accessible by the patient and configured to provide the at least one input from the patient to the server (12).

23. The patient-accessible apparatus as set forth in claim 22, wherein the user interface (30) includes a television set accessible by the patient and the at least one feedback path (30, 32, 36, 38) includes a television remote control configured to communicate with the television set.

24. A health management method comprising:

providing a plurality of goal modules (14), each goal module including one or more content sessions (16, 18, 71, 72, 73, 74, 120, 122, 126, 140, 148) cooperatively directed toward achieving a health management goal;

presenting a first content session;

receiving at least one input indicative of a user response to presented first content session;

selecting a second content session based on user response and on content flow rules; and

presenting the second content session.

25. The health management method as set forth in claim 24, wherein the selecting of the second content session includes:

selecting the second content session (122) to be the same as the first content session (122) upon the user response satisfying a content flow rule that calls for repeating the content session when the user response indicates a lack of comprehension.

26. The health management method as set forth in claim 24, wherein the selecting of the second content session includes:

selecting the second content session (174) to be a remedial version of the first content session (172) upon the user response satisfying a content flow rule that calls for presenting the remedial version when the user response indicates a lack of comprehension.

27. The health management method as set forth in claim 24, wherein the first content session is included in a first goal module, and the second content session is included in a second goal module different from the first goal module.

28. The health management method as set forth in claim 24, wherein the receiving of the at least one input includes:

receiving a biometric measurement indicative of whether the first content session achieved a desired physiological result.

29. A modular health management system comprising:

a server (12) communicating with a plurality of patients, the server storing at least;

a plurality of goal modules (14), each goal module including one or more content sessions (16, 18, 71, 72, 73, 74, 120, 122, 126, 140, 148) cooperatively directed toward achieving a health management goal, and

a plurality of patient profiles (22₁, 22₂, 22₃) corresponding to the plurality of patients, each patient profile being modularly constructed by assigning selected goal modules for presentation to the patient profiled by that patient profile,

wherein at least one of the plurality of goal modules is shared amongst two or more different patient profiles.

30. The modular health management system as set forth in claim 29, wherein the server (12) further stores content flow rules (44, 46, 48) for controlling an order of presentation of the content sessions, the modular health management system further including:

a user interface (30) via which a selected patient is presented with the selected goal modules assigned to that patient by the patient profile and via which the patient provides patient feedback responsive to the presentation, the content flow rules (44, 46, 48) controlling the order of presentation at least partially based on the patient feedback.

31. A healthcare management system comprising:

a patient interface for providing feedback to one or more goal modules;

a care provider interface for managing one or more patient care plans;

wherein said care provider interface inccludes a report generation mechanism that allows the care provider to review the feedback from the patient on the one or more goal modules and provide a course of action.

32. The healthcare managment system of claim 31, wherein the course of action is selected from maintaining the current care plan, requesting a modification to the care plan, requesting a consulation with one or more other care providers, and requesting an immediate intervention.

33. The healthcare management system of claim 31, wherein the care provider interface provides for a response to be generated by the care provider in response to the review of the feedback from the patient on the one or more goal modules.

34. The healthcare managment system of claim 33, wherein the response provided is a personalized goal for the patient.
