Abstract

A method and system for distribution of information is provided. A consumer metamodel definition for a device is created, wherein the consumer metamodel definition has consumer attribute. The consumer metamodel is then customized by editing the consumer attribute. A device inventory is then generated for the device by downloading a device information from a device information store, wherein the device has at least the consumer attribute of the consumer metamodel.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

generating a consumer meta model definition for a device, the consumer meta model definition having a consumer attribute;

customizing the consumer meta model, customizing comprising editing the consumer attribute of the consumer meta model; and

generating a device inventory for the device by downloading a device information from a device information store, the device having at least the consumer attribute of the consumer meta model.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

generating a device subscription for the device based on at least one distribution rule.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

consolidating and storing a data in a consolidated data store;

extracting the data from the consolidated data store based on a device subscription; and

distributing the data to the device based on the device subscription.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the step of generating a device subscription further comprises calculating a data to be distributed to the device based on one or more values of the consumer attribute and the at least one distribution rule.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein editing the consumer attribute comprises adding an attribute and deleting an attribute.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the device information is selected from the group comprising of device identifier, device category and default attributes.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the consumer attribute is selected from a group comprising standard attributes, category attributes, configuration attributes and administration attributes.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the standard attributes are selected from a group comprising receiver identifier, receiver category and receiver state.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the category attributes are selected from the group comprising device name, device sub category, database identifier, user identifier, installed software component, equipment number and device framework type.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the device data store is a data object.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the device inventory comprises one or more values of the attribute.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the values are automatically downloaded from a device data store.

13. A system comprising:

a consumer metamodel generator for generating a consumer metamodel definition for a device, the consumer metamodel definition having a consumer attribute, the consumer metamodel being stored in a memory;

a user interface device for customizing the consumer metamodel, the user interface device using a device metamodel modeling tool provided by a distribution middleware for customizing the consumer metamodel; and

a consumer inventory manager for generating a device inventory for the device by downloading a device information from a consumer store, the consumer store being stored in the memory.

14. The system of claim 13 further comprising a rule evaluation module for generating a device subscription for the device based on at least one distribution rule.

15. The system of claim 13 further comprising an extractor for extracting data from a consolidated data store based on a device subscription and distributing the data to the device based on the device subscription, the consolidated data store being stored in the memory.

16. A machine-accessible medium that provides instructions that, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

generating a consumer meta model definition for a device, the consumer meta model definition having a consumer attribute;

customizing the consumer meta model, customizing comprising editing the consumer attribute of the consumer meta model; and

generating a device inventory for the device by downloading a device information from a device information store, the device having at least the consumer attribute of the consumer meta model.

17. The machine-accessible medium of claim 16, further providing instructions which when executed by the machine cause the machine to perform further operations comprising generating a device subscription for the device based on at least one distribution rule.

18. The machine-accessible medium of claim 16, further providing instructions which when executed by the machine cause the machine to perform further operations comprising:

consolidating and storing data in a consolidated data store;

extracting data from the consolidated data store based on a device subscription; and

distributing the data to the device based on the device subscription.

19. The machine-accessible medium of claim 17, wherein the step of generating a device subscription further comprises calculating the data to be distributed to the device based on one or more values of the consumer attribute and the at least one distribution rule.

20. The machine-accessible medium of claim 16, wherein the consumer attribute is selected from a group comprising standard attributes, category attribute, configuration attributes and administration attributes.
