Abstract

A light emitting assembly and a system utilizing a plurality of light emitting assemblies having a plurality of light emitting elements arranged and disposed within a sub-assembly. The assembly also includes a controller in communication with the elements, the controller being capable of receiving wireless signals and/or transmitting wireless signals, the controller also being capable of driving the elements to emit light in response to the wireless signals. The assembly further includes a power source arranged and disposed to provide electrical power to the light emitting elements. A method for providing a light emitting element display is also disclosed.

Claims

1. A light emitting assembly comprising:

a plurality of light emitting elements arranged and disposed within a sub-assembly;

a controller in communication with the elements, the controller being capable of a function selected from the group consisting of receiving wireless signals, transmitting wireless signals and combinations thereof, the controller also being capable of driving the elements to emit light in response to the wireless signals; and

a power source arranged and disposed to provide electrical power to the elements.

2. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the light emitting elements are light emitting diodes or organic light emitting diodes.

3. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the sub-assembly, the controller and the power source are separable.

4. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the controller includes a plurality of assembly controllers.

5. The assembly of claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of assembly controllers comprises an element driver, a memory unit, and a wireless receiver.

6. The assembly of claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of assembly controllers are disposed in a unitary component.

7. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the controller includes a wireless transceiver.

8. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the power source is a battery.

9. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the power source is a photovoltaic cell.

10. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the power source is connected by a wire.

11. A light emitting system comprising:

a plurality of light emitting assemblies, the light emitting assemblies comprising a plurality of light emitting elements arranged and disposed within a sub-assembly; and

a controller in communication with the elements, the controller being capable of a function selected from the group consisting of receiving wireless signals, transmitting wireless signals and combinations thereof, the controller also being capable of driving the elements to emit light in response to the wireless signals; and

a system controller capable of transmitting wireless signals to the controller.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the light emitting elements are light emitting diodes or organic light emitting diodes.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the sub-assembly, the controller and the power source are separable.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the system controller and the controller are a unitary component.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the controller includes a plurality of assembly controllers.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the plurality of assembly controllers comprise an element driver, data memory, and a wireless receiver.

17. The system of claim 15, wherein the plurality of assembly controllers are disposed in a single component.

18. A method of providing a light emitting element display comprising:

providing a plurality of light emitting assemblies, the light emitting assemblies comprising a plurality of light emitting elements arranged and disposed within a sub-assembly; and

a controller in communication with the elements, the controller being capable of a function selected from the group consisting of receiving wireless signals, transmitting wireless signals and combinations thereof, the controller also being capable of driving the elements to emit light in response to the wireless signals;

transmitting a wireless signal to the controller; and

driving the elements to emit light in response to the wireless signal.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the transmitting is from a system controller.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the transmitting is from another controller.

21. The method of claim 18, wherein the wireless signal is stored as data by the controller prior to driving the elements.
