Abstract

Systems and methods provide for generating time-slot samples to which content may be assigned for measuring effects of the assigned content. Systems and methods provide for receiving viewer visit duration (VVD) that target viewers spend at a location where content is to be presented and receiving time intervals (TI) for data collection for data streams of interest that target viewers can affect during their visit to the location. A time-slot sample duration (TSSD) is determined using VVD and TI. Time-slot samples are generated that have a duration defined by the TSSD and a data collection period defined for at least a portion of the TSSD.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for generating time-slot samples to which content may be assigned for measuring effects of the assigned content, comprising:

receiving viewer visit duration (VVD) that target viewers spend at a location where content is to be presented;

receiving time intervals (TI) for data collection for data streams of interest that target viewers can affect during their visit to the location;

determining a time-slot sample duration (TSSD) using VVD and TI; and

generating time-slot samples each having a duration defined by the TSSD and a data collection period defined for at least a portion of the TSSD.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the VVD is based at least in part on prior sales data.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the VVD is based at least in part on sensor data.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the VVD is based at least in part on observational data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the VVD is based at least in part on transactional data.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the VVD is based on an estimate of an expected VVD.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the TSSD is determined by multiplying VVD by two if TI<

VVD.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the data collection period is one half of the TSSD and the data collection period begins after the time-slot sample has started.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the data collection period ends at the same time as the time-slot sample.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the TSSD is determined by summing TI and VVD if TI≧

VVD.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the data collection period begins one VVD before the beginning of the TI and terminates at the end of the TI.

12. The method of claim 1, comprising displaying content in accordance with the time-slot samples.

13. The method of claim 1, comprising assigning content to the time-slot samples to create a schedule.

14. The method of claim 13, comprising distributing the content to one or more display apparatuses.

15. The method of claim 14, comprising displaying the content on the one or more display apparatuses according to the schedule.

16. A system for measuring effects of content on viewer behavior, the system comprising:

a memory configured to store viewer visit duration (VVD) that target viewers spend at a location where content is presented and to store time intervals (TI) for data collection for data streams of interest that target viewers can affect during their visit to the location; and

a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute program instructions for determining a time-slot sample duration (TSSD) using VVD and TI and generating time-slot samples each having a duration defined by the TSSD and a data collection period defined for at least a portion of the TSSD.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the VVD is based at least in part on prior sales data.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the VVD is based at least in part on transaction data.

19. The system of claim 16, wherein the VVD is based at least in part on sensor data.

20. The system of claim 16, wherein the VVD is based at least in part on observational data.

21. The system of claim 16, wherein the VVD is based on an estimate of an expected VVD.

22. The system of claim 16, wherein the processor is configured to determine the TSSD by multiplying VVD by two if TI<

VVD.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the data collection period is one half of the TSSD and the data collection period begins after the time-slot sample has started.

24. The system of claim 22, wherein the data collection period ends at the same time as the time-slot sample.

25. The system of claim 16, wherein the processor is configured to determine the TSSD by summing TI and VVD if TI≧

VVD.

26. The system of claim 25, wherein the data collection period begins one VVD before the beginning of the TI and terminates at the end of the TI.

27. The system of claim 16, wherein the processor or other processor is configured to display content on one or more displays coupled to the processor in accordance with the time-slot samples.

28. The system of claim 16, wherein the processor or other processor is configured to assign content to the TSSs to create a schedule.

29. The system of claim 28, wherein the processor or the other processor is configured to distribute the content to one or more display apparatuses.

30. The system of claim 28, wherein the processor or the other processor is configured to display the content on the one or more display apparatuses according to the schedule.

31. The system of claim 16, wherein the processor comprises a plurality of processor resources that execute portions of the program instructions.

32. A computer-readable storage medium comprising program instructions stored thereon which are executable by a processor, the instructions executable for performing processes comprising:

receiving viewer visit duration (VVD) that target viewers spend at a location where content is to be presented;

receiving time intervals (TI) for data collection for data streams of interest that target viewers can affect during their visit to the location;

determining a time-slot sample duration (TSSD) using VVD and TI; and

generating time-slot samples each having a duration defined by the TSSD and a data collection period defined for at least a portion of the TSSD.
